Just ordered a large cast iron griddle (50 cm by 25cm) to use inside. Expect to see different food shaped bits of charcoal in the near future :embarrassed:

First try with it this evening, got some naan dough fermenting, pineapple and turmeric raita made and bought some pre marinated meats as icouldnt be bothered doing that myself.

So my darling wife has decided she's actually going to cook this week.

Not one to jump into these flights of fancy by half she's decided to do a rogan josh from scratch (not hard but I don't think she's ever made a curry that didn't come out of a jar / the take-away) and..... fancy shmancy gluten free naan breads which look like that'll be the first things I try on my pizza oven.

This is not goign to end well

The best I've bought are from here
https://woodlogsscotland.co.uk/about-us/

10x bags of kiln dried ash for £65 delivered. You need a hand axe as the logs can be a bit big . They also deliver larger amounts if you have space

I have also bought bags of kiln dried hardwood from dobbies, which were quite bad as they were mixed species so burned at different rates and some produced nasty smoke. Also home bargains sells kiln dried birch wood, but you need to remove any bark from that as it can make tar, it also burns very quick and leaves little in the way of coals. But it's cheap and can work

best hardwoods are oak, ash and beech. Must be very well seasoned or preferably kiln dried

So I finally gave my pizza oven bbq hack thing a go on Saturday night.

Just used charcoal because it's what I had to hand and an off the shelf pizza because I didn't want to spend time making something I burnt to a crisp.

It actually turned out pretty good.

I put 2 bricks below the stone so the coals and heat eminated from the perimiter of the bbq instead of from directly underneath it. Had to rotate it a good few times to make sure the crust was getting done evenly.

It turned out nice and crispy. Will need to try it with some homemade stuff.

Sounds like a good plan with the bricks, I think a lot of the bbq pizzas suffer from too much bottom heat and not enough top heat. If you can have the fire on one side and the stone on the other it might be even better, although you'll probably have to turn the pizza a fair bit. can be a lot of faffing about making your own pizza from scratch, but i end up enjoying it

also those fuckers I linked ^^ haven't replied to my emails for more wood, so fuck them :) need to find a new supplier
