Manx Buggy build thread!

Phil - Looking really good. I like the wide rims on the back and the stock look rims on the front. Good stuff!

Thanks! I actually had those custom made and powder coated (the back ones) per my specs. It came out exactly as i hoped. :thu:

Just added the buggy to my insurance. I need proof of insurance to register it.

Only added $19.92 per month. Whew.

Wow - My '72 VW Convertible Cabrio is only $84.50 for the year insurance!! And I don't have to have it inspected and registration was $0 this year. About the only thing Jersey does good is with antique cars.

Thats a great deal!

I'll probably try to brave the trip to the DMV tomorrow. Ugh.

:gah:

So the guy i bought it from signed the pink, but not the spot to verify odometer reading. I called and he's busy tonight, but he'll sign it tomorrow evening.

So it looks like DMV is Thursday.

 I just want this thing DONE.

After an hour and a half . . .

Its all taken care of. Buggy is registered until November 2011. Whew.

After work . . .got the wiper motor wired up and mounted and windshield wipers on. Bolted some other stuff, worked on the wiring more.

This weekend is going to be the big push to get it on the road.

Well, i got the engine to turn over tonight, and nothing got fried. no gas in it yet, so i'll get that tomorrow, put the seats in, and bleed the brakes.

It might actually move under its own power tomorrow. :embarrassed:

Well. Poop.

Good news, with starting fluid it fired and ran great. I did discover however that somehow (must have been when i shortened the pan) the fuel line must have gotten a kink in it deep inside the tunnel. Nothing i can do but purchase a new stainless fuel line and route it a different way to the back.

Also, i broke a little plastic part on the master cylinder, so i went today to get a new part, and of course to get the part you have to buy a whole new master cylinder. SO, i figure i'll just replace the 30 year old one with the new one.

Wiring is coming along, but still a lot of work to do. I put it in reverse and the brake lights come on.. no big deal, just swap the wires to the different bulbs. But there are lots of things like that needing to be ironed out.

So its too much for the rest of this weekend. It will have to wait until maybe the middle of next week.

Some pics with the mirrors and wipers and stuff, and my new seats.

Replaced the fuel line at lunch today, will try to see if it will start and run after work.

Still can't drive it yet though, i need to replace the master cylinder and bleed the brakes.

Good lord it hot out though. Working on it today almost killed me.

Its ALIVE! Started and ran this afternoon. Forgot the camera at home though. It wouldnt idle, i'll have to mess with the carb a bit.

But it did run!

To be perfectly honest I'm anxious to get it done so i can STOP concentrating on it for awhile. Working on it every day at lunch, sometimes after work, and one day on weekends has gotten pretty old.

Im looking forward to not thinking about it for awhile. :embarrassed:
