Manx Buggy build thread!

Loooong time coming on this one, Phil. Good to see it almost ready to go. I want a vid when you're finally driving it around.

Oh definitely. I'm taking off in about 10 minutes here to work on it over my lunch time. :embarrassed: Im installing the new master cylinder i picked up over the weekend, and messing around a bit more with the electrical.

I love the master cylinders on the air cooled bugs - they are about the size of a littel squirt gun. Did you go with stock brakes or upgrade them to disc?

Yeah, they are very cool and simple. Problem today was trying to install it myself. As you know, the master cylinder mounts to the bulkhead in front of the pedals but outside the passenger compartment. But the bolts come through from inside the passenger compartment. How does one person hold it in place, and then install the bolts from the other side? ugh. I finally got it in, but it took the full lunch hour to get those two bolts in, and then hook up the brake lines. Wasnt easy.

As for the brakes, the fronts are disc brakes (they were in the green donor beetle i bought), and the rears are the drums that were in the pan. Eventually i would like to upgrade the rears to disc brakes too, but they are pretty pricey if you want to keep the emergency brake assembly. That will come down the road a bit. :embarrassed:

Hi tele. made me lulz. Thanks. At this point i want it so badly to be done. Yes to drive it, but also to just be DONE.

I just read through the whole thread. Its been a looooooong ride.

ugh. Hard day for the Philster and his buggy. Back brakes wouldn't bleed, something goofed up with the master cylinder, so i had to pull it out. It was running funny, so i got a carb rebuild kit and took the carb off.

Basically worked on it for about 5 hours and its farther away from running than it was yesterday. Blah.

Good luck with the carb rebuild. I have an extra one for Pitcon.....or is it for a solex........ I can't remember...... I'll loo it up and send your way if you need it.

I actually discovered my carb is missing a part completely, but i have no idea what is supposed to go there. I'll get a pic of it and post it.

So, apparently somewhere along the way something fell off the carb. I'll go to a VW place at lunch and try to figure out what's missing :embarrassed:

The view from directly behind, as if looking at the carb if its in the car.

Here is my carb - There is a hex bolt that goes in there (pay no attention to the hole in my carb - I've fixed that).

hmmm. it might have a pointy end on that hex bolt though, cause it looks like at the bottom of the hole is some kind of seat, or jet hole of some kind.

But yeah, i remember when that thing came off, its like a backfire valve of some kind. I learned from your misfortune.

Thanks brotha! I actually just got back from picking up that exact thing at lunch. :thu:

No working on it today though, its raining out.

I'm jealous that you have a place to go to. There are no VW places by me that I can just go to. I have to do it all on-line.
