2023 concert thread

Springsteen last night. 5th or 6th time I've seen him and he was absolutely tremendous, as always.
I am so happy for you! This is the first tour that I’ve missed in many years. Tickets were so expensive in America. The seat that I wanted to buy in the lower bowl was $995 plus a couple hundred dollars for Ticketmaster fees. I just couldn’t rationalize that, but I tried!

It really was brilliant. I don't think we'll see him back here again and he couldn't have signed off in a better way.

We missed tickets for London in July and we're waiting to hear back on a house offer tomorrow so I need to be sensible at least up until lunchtime but I'm having a little hot tub nosey at London resales and failing that, Chicago :thu:

My boys got me three lawn tix for the August 2nd Jason Isbell show @Wolf Trap. So that's added to the schedule. Me and my two kids getting hit w/ the hard yet musically awesome truths from Mr. Isbell & his band. Very looking forward to my 1st in-person Isbell show.

Still a bunch of other WT shows that I want to see, but we'll have to see if any others can be managed.

Got a somewhat related question for live music junkies...

Do you consider yourself to have attended the live shows that you watched remotely during lockdown? We watched a bunch that I feel should count, but I'm also oddly hesitant to add them to me nerdy official list of concerts.

Cheers all.

Um, no. Those don’t count. My opinion.

I should be at that one too. I think my oldest and I are going.

For what it's worth, several were literally only virtual concerts, where the only "crowd" was the crew that set up the equipment and those filming. I think these are in a different category than watching the Farm Aid telecast or stream.

Just got back from attending two days of the Telluride Bluegrass festival. Per usual, it did not suck.

Here's who we saw:

Sierra Ferrell
The Earls of Leicester with Jerry Douglas
Yonder Mountain String Band
Mary Chapin Carpenter
Punch Brothers
Emmylou Harris & Watchhouse
Telluride House Band (Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, Bryan Sutton, Bela Fleck, Edgar Meyer & Stuart Duncan)
Gregory Alan Isakov
Robert Plant & Alison Krauss

You folks doing the lawn too? I don't think there are any pairs left inside, but when the gods are nice the lawn at Wolf Trap is better than any seat in any arena.

I usually wait until the last minute and hit the Gametime app. There is usually someone with seats who can’t go and just trying to unload them. But we’ll see.

So the wife has been on a “we need to see them before they die!!!” kick. My thing is always that the ones I want to see need to be within at least ten light years of their prime. Nonetheless, she talked me into seeing Peter Frampton outside of Dayton this past Wednesday, and the Doobie Brothers last night.

Sooooo, I was able to score pretty great tickets for both shows by waiting until close to the last day.
Frampton was kicking off this tour at our show, and frankly, it really showed. I have respect for Frampton, but never was a huge fan. Knowing his current medical battles, I cut him some slack, and for the most part, his voice and playing were pretty much there - but he and the whole band played seated all night (he was walking very unsteadily with a cane when he first took the stage, and didn’t leave the stage until the end - he even said “his is where we would leave for the encore, but it’s easier for me to not do that” :frown:), and the show lacked energy. He played the hits, a few deep cuts, and finished with a Humble Pie trilogy. The show was OK, but I would have not gone in the first place without the wife’s prodding.

Last night was The Doobies in Fart Wayne. I was a bit unpleasantly surprised that Tom Johnston was sitting out this part of the tour, as I did not know he had back surgery recently…BUT they put on a fantastic show. Bassist John Cowan took over some of Johnston’s lead vocals, and did very well. John McFee played three different Variaxs into a Helix (I kinda knew he had switched years ago, but it was cool to see a pro in action with that rig).

The band was having fun (maybe even Michael McDonald), sounded great, and were tight as shit. First time I’d ever seen them, and would very much like to see them again.

Badass show, catch them if you can. Celebrating 10Y since Southeastern was released by playing of the album for the current tour along with Weathervanes.

The Smile was FANTASTIC!!! I saw them in Atlanta in December and this was equally as awesome but a different show across the board and I loved it.
Poor Asheville show after us had their AC go down and apparently they played it anyway. Yikes.

I went to see the Deftones a few years ago, in August and the AC broke right before the show. The show was awesome, but very uncomfortable
