Manx Buggy build thread!

OK, i passed another big step today. There was a few things that needed to be welded, and my boss/cousin has the welding equipment, so i was sorta at his mercy when he could do it, and i couldnt move on until it was done. So, while not exciting, it was big, and necessary.

First though, i put on the fuel filler cap with stainless hardware.

Then got the seat sliders, the seat belt mount, the VIN number and the gas tank all welded.

And thats it for today.

SO

Now, on Monday i have to do a little grinding and such. Then i can paint the pan with the bedliner material that im using in lieu of carpeting, then towards the end of the week i can bolt the body to the pan! Getting closer!

My first coat of bedliner on the pan today. Next couple days i'll put on a couple more coats, then the body will be ready to put on.

Its getting close! Later this week i'll set the body on, i'll need about 24 sets of hardware to bolt it all up. Im still waiting for my wheels to be finished, hopefully this week and i'll mount the tires.

Then hook up the steering, bleed the brakes, mount the seats, and . . .

Start the wiring. Ugh. Thats gonna be a nightmare.

OK. Just finished a couple more coats of bedliner in the pan, and started blacking out the wheelwells of the body. Got a call today my wheels shipped, i should be getting them tomorrow.

Today's update!

Wheels arrived, they look great. I just dropped them off at the tire store. i am just getting the stock tires from the beetle put back on the fronts, and im getting some BFGoodrich All-Terrains for the back.

I also moved the body of the buggy off the sawhorses and onto the pan! I'll get some pics after work.

you already have a harness though, right?

Well i have the harness i pulled out of the beetle, yes. But its all taken apart from the fuse block, although i have everything labeled and diagramed. Its still going to be a little dicey though. :embarrassed:

And yes, pics right after work. I'll go get the wheels with the tires installed with the company truck, go back and put 'em on the buggy and take pics.

OK, you want some pics?

Came out just right, as far as im concerned. The back wheels and tires are just perfectly wide enough, more than the fronts. I have gotten some folks telling me i should have made the wheels yellow or black, but nah, not my thing. I dont really like black wheels, they look kinda unfinished to me. White is kinda a retro look, so who cares what others think, i like it!

Thanks dude.

Its been a lot of hard work, but its starting to pay off, there is a light at the end of the tunnel now.

Thanks guys! I brought the fiberglass seats and the sliders home over the weekend, i gotta figure out how i'm going to bolt them together.

Here is a pic with the taillights mocked up in place. I have to do a little more cutting to the fiberglass before i can screw them into place.

Well i stayed up home this weekend, but still made progress. I mounted the fiberglass bucket seats to the stock VW sliders. Monday all i have to do is slide them in place.
