5th season. He's got grown kids to think about.5 episodes or 5 seasons in? I just finished episode 7 and he’s still pretty impulsive and he only has the 1 baby.

This is true, but I also see it now that it served to show him now as a ripened man who learned from his mistakes. As I've hinted I'm really loving how this series has turned, but that doesn't take away from the fact that it was a frustrating watch in the beginning.I think you all may be missing the point of The Last Kingdom. Yes, Uhtred and Alfred do seemingly stupid, illogical, and impulsive things. But the point is that they are both driven by very deeply held but self-conflicting ideals. Their resulting actions often make no sense in absolute terms, but in the context of each of their tangled convictions and motivations, you can often see that they were forced into a path that they knew wasn't objectively the best path.
I think that's what makes them such rich characters.

I’m not sure if you’re talking to me, but I get their motivations, I just think the acting is B rate at best and the plot line is embarrassingly predictable. I’m on the final episode of season 1 and I’m not sure I even care who wins the fight to the death. I've only hung in because so many of my friends say how awesome it is, I just keep hoping it's gonna get better.
I agree with everything you said but still liked the show.
Fuck A Doodle Do!Derry Girls series 3 (final one) starts airing tonight, if that's on US Netflix it's well worth watching.

Rat farts. Netflix has no date set for when season 3 will be available. We're on the other side of the fence but I've tonnes of family and friends in Northern Ireland and they've absolutely nailed working class life over there.
The Troubles were still very much a thing when I was younger and it obviously still permeates the memories and consciousness of people living there. For every person involved in deep end of the fighting, there were thousands of normal folk just trying to get on in the world and the strange circumstances did bring a lot of humour. A mate of mine got dragged home one night in a shopping trolley after a riot, we all thought he'd been hit by an IRA sniper, he'd actually took a shot square in the arse from an RUC rubber bullet. He kept it on his mantelpiece.
I've got a sneaking suspicion there's going to be a tragedy this time round to set it's stall out as a really great comedy for the decades.
