Give me something to watch on Netflix

I made a new observation last night upon finishing “Archive 81”…

When you invest an hour and a half or two into a movie and it fucking sucks, that’s one thing…. But when you watch a limited series, and each episode is more messed up than the last.. mystery? cult? possession? Time travel? But then collapses into a misshapen shit pile?

At that point I’m not just disappointed in the choices of the filmmakers, but feel pissed off and want to slap them up the side of the fucking head for wasting several hours of my life.
I actually had forgotten how that ended.

Finished station eleven last night.

My wife read the book but I have not (though I knew the major plot points).
I think they should have actually called it something else with the tag line that it's is a story inspired by station eleven. That might have tempered the expectations that it would be true to the book.

My wife was naturally bothered by all the departures from the book. Mid-way through, I was feeling like it was just another post apocalyptic drama but with a slice & dice timeline. Several performances are compelling & kept it at least a bit engaging through the slog.

The way it draws to a conclusion is a decent payoff, if you stick it out.

The Righteous Gemstones continues it's downward spiral. I'm guessing that McBride has taken over the writing reigns. The second season seems to aim for the same cringe as Vice Principals and Eastbound and Down.

Just saw where there's going to be a third season.

The Loki series on Disney was excellent. Great story, looks fantastic, solid acting, and just plain fun. It’s like Rick and Morty, Fallout 4, Twilight Zone cocktail with a splash of Seven. Looking forward to season 2. Sophie DiMartino is absolutely charming. And the blonde Wilson guy was perfectly tolerable.

Wanda Vision was unwatchable. I couldn’t get past the first episode. The falcon and winter soldier series was ok but forgettable.

You really couldn't get with Wandavision? I'd have another go at it if I were you.

I thought Loki was good but they didn't stick the landing in the final episode. Falcon and Winter Soldier was great in parts, but had a really unconvincing antagonist. Bad acting, bad character. The relationship between Sam and Bucky was terrifc though, it really filled in those characters. And John Walker was brilliant. He's the douchebag Captain America, but also relatable. The bit where he decapitated the guy and everyone is filming is a perfect scene.

My favorite of the recent Marvel shows is Hawkeye. It's heartwarming.

I watched Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Loki and like most MCU stuff remember almost nothing about them. Wandavision on the other hand was great.

i’ll give WV another shot based on your suggestion.

Totally agree with your summation of Falcon Winter Soldier. Made me want to watch Hap and Leonard again.

just finished the black widow movie, I’ll hit WV again then whatever is next. Almost done with the Marvel content, watched exclusively while working out.

Not early enough. Just watched it last night.

Effects were good. The entirety of the rest was absolute garbage.
I don't want to ruin anything but I totally thought they were going to go down the road of Halloween and Laurie with that return of the girl that survived the first time. I laughed out loud...a lot.

I, on the other hand don't care if I "ruin" it. It's ruined just by hitting play.

When did Leatherface become invincible? Was this the first time? I only watched the reboot before. Never saw the original (regretfully).

I've watched a few episodes of Space Force and it sort of reminds me of the first season of Parks and Rec: the ingredients are there for something great, but they haven't jelled into anything interesting. Does space Force ever find its legs?

I watched the Western 'Hostiles' with Christian Bale playing a US Cavalry officer during whatsever war was on against the indians.

Very good I thought.

I am watching The Gift, a Turkish ‘supernatural’ mystery drama.

I am enjoying it, it’s got some good acting in it, although as often with this type of program, a lot of the characters’ decisions are illogical and make no sense. Still, some solid acting, especially the lead actress’ performance is magnetic.

Although the supernatural part is nonsensical fluff, the makers did well to keep it to a minimum and focus on the characters and their interactions.

It’s not life changing but good entertainment
