2018 Concert Thread

Got my ticket to see Amorphis, Dark Tranquillity, Omnium Gatherum, & Moonspell in Fort Wayne on Sept. 11th : )

I guess that Amorphis and Dark Tranquillity are alternating headlining slots, with Amorphis headlining in Fort Wayne. They are playing at Harpo's in Detroit the next night with Dark Tranquillity headlining, one of the reasons I picked the Fort Wayne show instead of the Detroit show. I like Dark Tranquillity, but I like Amorphis even more. Plus, Fort Wayne is a bit closer...maybe by 20 miles one-way.

Saw Tommy Tutone, Greg Kihn, Loverboy and Rick Springfield Tuesday night. I wanted to see Greg Kihn, my Wife wanted to see Loverboy and 9,000 women wanted to see Rick Springfield. Nobody wanted to see Tommy.
I was disappointed that Greg Kihn only got to do about five songs, three of them new ones, and he was great.
I have to admit I knew absolutely nothing about Loverboy, but they did a great set.
I couldn't stay for all of Rick Springfield, but saw half of his set. He's actually a fine guitar player and performer and 99% of the people in attendance knew all the words to all his songs.

If I can get the Time Machine working, I might catch this Donington bill.

I was at this show two weeks later. Someone else on the board was at the Nurnberg show the day after this one. Maybe @GDSmithTX?

Yes indeed I was. Coolest festival I've ever been to.

Random musings:

It was the first time I'd ever heard Gary Moore, and I was massively impressed.

It was David Lee Roth's last concert with Van Halen until 2007; he was inebriated onstage and messed up the words numerous times.

Ozzy experienced PA problems and had to restart a song or two. The rumors going around were that Motley Crue's backstage guys were screwing with the equipment as a prank. Ozzy was pissed.

I was involved in a drunken dust-up between the group of about 10 soldiers I was with and a larger group of German nationals. It got pretty nasty for a while, but then it ended alright. Some of us ended up hanging out and drinking with some of those guys later; we ended up knowing some of the same people. Back at the barracks, I found a gravity knife in my jacket pocket and no one had any recollection how it got there. I was hungover for like 2 days afterward.

Available setlists:
Gary Moore
Dio
Motley Crue
Van Halen
AC/DC They ended their encore with "For Those About To Rock" and the unbelievable barrage of painfully loud cannon fire at the end is, to this day, the most spectacular thing I have ever experienced at a concert. It also probably cost me 1% of my hearing.

I saw Feist in June. It was a fantastic experience. I had seen her once before with a bigger production. She is always worth the money but you have to like the artsy stuff or it won't be your thing.

Yngwie was awesome. He hammed it up, did the kicks and guitar flips. Even yelled at the light guy. It was funny because it was a total bit. He got done yelling, then his guitar tech came out to him and he started cracking up. He had a ton of Marshalls behind him, and the rest of the band was relegated to a tiny piece of the stage while Yngwie had the rest. You couldn’t even see the singer/keyboard guy from half golf the venue. I would have been happier if the set was 4 or 5 songs because that was all I could take of the music.

Might go see that “indie supergroup” Boygenius (bunch of youngish singer songwriters joining forces) in November but it’s on an inconvenient date and at one of my least fav venues in town, so...

All those (apparent) amps and he's probably playing through a DSL 40 combo hiding behind them
I watched closely. There were 2 heads on the far right that had cables going into the inputs and only one cabinet had a mic on it. They were powered off when we got there. With about 15 minutes left of the second opener, the guitar tech came out and turned those 2 on. I'm not sure he was using both, one was probably a failover, but he was using one. He was loud as crap. At first, I was all the way over directly in front of the mic'd cab with only a couple people in front of me and I couldn't hear anything but his guitar. I made it there for maybe 4 songs, then went to the back and could actually hear the drummer and bass player.
