2018 Concert Thread

I was ready to pull the trigger on a pair of Robert Plant tickets this morning until I saw:

Great seats: $200
Decent seats: $156
Back of the house: $90

...plus fees, of course.

Fucking hell no.

I was talking to some friends about this a couple of months ago. They were going to see Journey and Def Leppard and I think they paid $65 or $70 plus fees. I was never really a Def Leppard fan, but that would be a fun show at $20-$25 a ticket. Good for them getting that kind of cash decades after their time has passed, but I'm not dropping that kind of cash on them. Same with Fleetwood Mac. I don't know that if it were the regular lineup I would be interested, but it would be cool to see how they sound with Mike Campbell and Tim Finn. I'm not dropping $70 plus fees for nosebleeds.

Yeah, fuck all that.

I've told this story before on this forum, but eight years ago Nashville was pretty much shut down by a big snowstorm. Cars sliding everywhere, just a colossal clusterfuck. Circumstances being what they were, I abandoned my car in a Taco Bell parking lot and walked three miles in a blizzard to see Robert Plant and The Band of Joy. They'd made no announcement beforehand but that night was filmed and was released as part of the Live from the Artists Den series.

Nothing is going to eclipse that adventure so I can't say I'm too disappointed by this morning's turn of events.

Just snagged a ticket for Yngwie J Malmsteen. @VoidTerraFirma told me about it and I told a few friends and they want to go, so why not? I haven't heard a single thing he's done since Odyssey but its $30 and one of the closest venues to my house.

I'm at the Pumpkins show in Tampa and the Reverend has been sighted!!!

They’re gonna be down the road by Dayton next month. Ticket sales seem to be verrrrrrrrrrry slow, and its not a huge venue. Hmmmmmmmm...
As a guitar geek, it was kinda fun, but honestly, it turned into a weedly weedly fest after a while.

The spectator that walked around sans shirt and piss-stained pants didn’t help with the atmosphere.
Most Security/Police/EMS incidents I’ve seen at that venue during one concert.
I don’t want to say that they draw that kind of crazy because I don’t really know for sure, but I’ve been to that venue a number of times now, with bigger crowds, and not seen as much insanity as I did that night.

But if one was to be looking for some sort of psychedelic substance, that would be a great place to check, right...?

Hmm, I've never been there. Decent venue?

I’ve only driven by it several times; haven’t been there, yet. It’s outdoor, but inclined covered pavilion only. The Google machine says it has a capacity of 4200. Right off of I-70.

Yeah, as much as I like Warren, I’ve been cooling a bit on the Mule. My wife actually wants to go more than I do, but I doubt we’ll make it -the show is on a weeknight, and I will most likely be traveling for work as normal.

In this vein, we would love to check out Tedeschi Trucks Band, and they just announced a Columbus show for November.

I didn’t know Richard Thompson joined the Pumpkins. Awesome!
Lol. The guitar! That's just a roadie. Billy and their touring guitarist Jeff, I think, played Reverends all night. It was an AMAZING show.
Basically a Queensryche style themed rock opera thing. So damn good! 3 solid hours!!!!!

I liked the Tedeschi Trucks show. Everyone else that went with me didn’t. “Not enough hits”, but they also had no idea who Susan and Derek are.
