2018 Concert Thread

Melissa Etheridge played in a 16th century church here. About 150 people (I think I was the only straight male, and boy did I get a bunch of dirty looks). She was terrific.

I didn't realize that she was as solid a guitar player as she is. My general assumption with any solo act that has the "singer with an acoustic" vibe is that they'll strum the cowboy chords while someone else holds down the primary guitar parts, but she was, for most of the night, the only guitarist (the keyboard player played a Tele on 3 or 4 songs) and had some good tone and nice solos. I was impressed.

And yeah, I was definitely a minority in the crowd, though I wasn't aware of any dirty looks :).

I had the chance to go see Yes last night, but I had already promised my mom that I would take her to the local ice cream parlour for a get together her church was having. I could've skipped the ice cream and my mom wouldn't have known any different, as her dementia is getting worse, but that would've been a shitty thing to do and it was only Yes (without Chris Squire & Jon Anderson).

Surprise, just scored tix to see Los Lobos again! In September.

I was perusing the calendar for “Texas Oldest Dance Hall” in Gruene, TX. That’s pronounced “green.” Yah, I dunno. But it is just a short drive from the retirement house we are building in San Marcos. Which won’t be quite done yet then, but that’s what Holiday Inns are for.

Most of the acts there are local/regional, so I was jolted to see my favorite band listed, to say the least.

Stoked!

Good call. Apparently Alan White has health issues, so he can only play when he’s up to it. Even Steve Howe can’t save them, and he has lost a bit off the fastball. This current incarnation is really not appealing to me at all. OTOH, the ARW band (Anderson, Rabin, Wakeman) is touring this summer, and probably would be a much better show.

It's July and I have not been to a show yet...

However - for Fathers Day I have tickets to go see SHEL locally. One of my fave Colorado bands (though they don't live here any more). Always a quality show.

I have tickets to see the ARW version in September, really looking forward to it. Have seen Yes in various configurations several times since the 80's, always a good show - but Anderson is such an awesome front man that I'm only interested in the lineup that has him in it =).

OK, one of my summer concerts down - Delbert McClinton at the Handy Blues fest

Dude brings it, considering he's 77 years old.

Instead of seeing the Drive-By Truckers opening for Tesdschi and Trucks at Wolftrap Wed, I may be going to Taylor Swift at FedEx Field. My daughter's friend is staying with us this week and she won tickets to Taylor Swift. BTW, Wolftrap is maybe 10 minutes from my house with no traffic and FedEx Field is about an hour and 15 and when there is no traffic and there will be traffic, lots of traffic. Neither my daughter or her friend are Taylor Swift fans, they just think since they won tickets, it would be a waste not to go. I'm hoping my wife bites the bullet and takes them.

it turns out Indian is the "special guest" for the Yob show tonight, but I can't go :/

Had a great time at Dead & Co 7/3. It was my son and his GF's first show, and they loved it.

John tearing into Althea

I'm sayin'! and bell witch.

Indian sorta-almost-reunion is still sorta heartening, though. maybe they'll make it more than a one-off.

Traditionally, Monday night shows absolutely kill. It’s a sparse crowd and the band really appreciates you for grinding it out with them.

I caught Opeth on a Monday night back around 03 or so in San Fran. They slaughtered the joint.

Damn.

Mojo for Chad.

Then Tesla, Joan Jet, and STYX on Wednesday.

No pics of Tesla. We were getting dinner while they were on.
I recognised Signs, their encore.
