2018 Concert Thread

I just added Evanescence to the summer list - my sister really wants to see them and they're in town this coming Saturday, so am taking her to the show (she has health issues, can't send her alone). I know all of 2 songs I can think of, but I dig the 2 songs and Amy's voice, so I have decent hopes for the show.

They were pretty good when I saw them in 2011. She has an almost brand-new band though, so who knows now?

Last night was K.T. Tunstall, Better Than Ezra, and Bare Naked Ladies.

We were running late and got there just as K.T. finished her set. Apparently, she does the whole set solo and reports were good.

I had no expectation of Better Than Ezra. I figured I’d know their hits once I heard them but I wouldn’t have been able to name them in advance. Like the music or not, they were a lot of fun. Pretty solid musicians, too.

Bare Naked Ladies did their thing. Mixed the stuff that you’d expect at encore into earlier spots in the set. They were goofy, made jokes, created raps on the fly about the venue, the crowd, and Niagara Falls. The best part is when they did some covers. Like Queen’s Another One Bites The Dust. The drummer switches spots with Ed and sings this one. Just fun stuff.

I probably wouldn’t have gone to see them had I not had the tickets from the season series, and while I won’t say that it was amazing, it was fun and entertaining.
Yes, they did the theme from Big Bang Theory.

Amorphis, Dark Tranquillity, Moonspell, & Omnium Gatherum !!!

I could go see it in Fort Wayne on Sep. 11th with Amorphis headlining, or in Detroit on the 12th with Dark Tranquillity headlining.

They must be alternating who is the headliner. I love both bands, and like Omnium Gatherum.

Saw Eric Johnson Thursday night at the Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix, part of his Acoustic and Piano tour.
I'd seen him there a number of times, but always with his band. He's an amazing guitar player and song writer.

Michael Jerome is also Richard Thompson's drummer. Guy's a monster.

Seeing Spock's Beard and Flower Kings Revisited (no idea what lineup Roine will pick for that yet) in Oslo in November. Should be really good.
The latest Spock's Beard album is very good btw.

Eels put on a hell of a good show in Boston last month. The new band is tight tight tight and they looked like they were having a blast. Two Prince covers and a Who cover to boot. The opening act, That 1 Guy, was epic to behold.

Going to see Weezer and The Pixies on Tuesday

LAIR OF THE MINOTAUR!!!

sumac (the guy from Isis, etc) is supposed to be super awesome live too.

Love Ted Leonard's voice. His 'other' band, Enchant, is one of my all-time favorite prog bands.

I've got the Psychedelic Furs coming up on Friday, and then The Fixx the following Monday.

Can't wait.

Couch Slut
I admit I'm not familiar with couch slut's body of work, but the name is definitely a selling point, and they sound pretty cool by description (swans, jesus lizard-esque). I'll have to check them out

I was ready to pull the trigger on a pair of Robert Plant tickets this morning until I saw:

Great seats: $200
Decent seats: $156
Back of the house: $90

...plus fees, of course.

Fucking hell no.
