OMG Politics, I'm over it already.

I don't see why it has to be. Both sides want exact opposite countries, why not make both happy. Why would anyone hate that idea?

Because the red states are a bunch of parasites and their economies will collapse when they can’t keep sucking blue state money out of the federal teat. And their leadership would have no money for the militarism they love to rally around.

SAN DIMAS HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL RULES!!
ChuckyB posted a link to the entire transcript of his Black History Month comments on Facebook today: http://theconcourse.deadspin.com/a-...arefromsite&utm_source=The_Concourse_facebook

Shit. It's almost as if he doesn't know a fucking thing about the trials and contributions that African Americans have experienced over the last couple of centuries in this country. Because most of that is about CNN and Fox news. Or at least didn't try to find a speech writer who know a little bit of something.

From an attorney friend's FB feed:

Here's some Good news to share!!
For everyone who DID something, small or big, your efforts have been successful. Because of you:
1. Federal hiring freeze is reversed for VA (Veteran Affairs).
2. Court order Partial stay of the immigration ban for those with valid visas.
3. Green card holders can get back in country.
4. Uber pledges $3M and immigration lawyers for its drivers after #DeleteUber trends on Twitter.
5. Obamacare (Affordable Care Act) enrollment ads are still going to air.
6. The ACLU raised 24M over the weekend (normally 3-4Mil/year).
7. HHS, EPA, USDA gag order lifted.
8. EPA climate data no longer scrubbed from website.
9. More people of different career/religious/economic/race backgrounds are considering running for political office than ever before.
10. MOST importantly, since we live in a participatory democracy, the people are engaged.
While more is needed, sometimes you have to celebrate your wins.
Stay vigilant, but also take self care seriously. Activist burnout is a thing. Marathon, don't sprint.

i'm not saying those aren't true....but i haven't heard or read anything about those items on the news.

Well, the red states have agriculture, and public lands primarily. (and missile silos I suppose). The public lands serve for grazing, mining, other extractive resources such as natural gas and oil. And of course, recreation and preservation of animals and natural lands. Just that costs money. The agriculture feeds a lot of people. Whether or not certain ag-business should be subsidized is another discussion. So I like to think it is not completely parasitic. The seaboards and population centers can't grow sufficient food in the urban/suburban sprawl. And of course, a lot of our food comes from Mexico and other places besides our interior. (consider that wall and trade barriers yet again). The relationship between urban and rural is symbiotic, if dysfunctionally so. If the areas were to separate politically, there would need to be trade systems set up at least. I just don't see it as being practical. I also don't see the issues as being that simple, whether we are talking resources and finance, or social issues and politics. There are many blue pockets within the overall red areas on the map.

Ha Ha! Typing this out made me think of this song. Don't shoot! It just came to me and I have to share.

The biggest blue state produces half the nuts, fruits and vegetables for the country.

Well, yes, there is that. Still, I do not think it is as simple as splitting the country along red and blue. Additionally, I require all against painting with such a broad brush about people. Saying that all people in red states want what the radical right is pushing is like saying all German people like bratwurst.

Also, I still believe this divide and conquer attitude is playing right in to trump and Bannon's hand. I am not saying that we all will be fully United at any time much less soon. But there is a lot more common ground than the press and the political parties want us to see.
