the link you provided indicates that it wasn't racism that made them vote for Trump, or they wouldn't have voted for Obama once or twice. I think it's more "outsider" and "shaking up Washington" feelings which is why Bernie would have mopped the floor with Trump. It wouldn't have even been close.

I deleted my FB account. I don't really post on it ever, and none of my "friends" posted anything about the upcoming election until Wednesday. Then it was all "ha Trumps the man, we won." I thought about trying to open a dialog with them, but realized how futile that would be, so I just walked.

Yes for half the country that did not vote for him, many of those people saw a vote for Trump as an endorsement of racism, ignorance, misogyny & intolerance. I can not in good conscience vote for any candidate that encourages these destructive ideals so I get where people are coming from. I also think it's incorrect to suggest that the half of our country that voted for Trump is 100% made of up people who possess those attitudes. Yes many people with horrible attitudes & beliefs latched on to those aspects of his campaign & are using his victory as an opportunity to let out all that bile that's been building up over the last 8 years or whatever. The reality is there were people who latched on to other aspects of his platform that are so important to them that they were able to reconcile the downsides; jobs, prosperity, security, equity & eliminating corruption, etc. Outside of the crazy Trump stuff there's some core conservative ideals at play.
Emotions are running high right now and I too think the potential for real damage to our nation is in front of us. I have nothing but support for those who want to make their voices heard in this moment that they will not stand and let racism & intolerance go unchecked. However just casting half this country into proverbial basket of deplorables is lazy, furthers the ideological divide & does nothing to foster understanding or cooperation on working to a better country.

So you're leaving the country right. I mean you can't be in this country and not be with the people who voted for or are laying with Trump. I don't like Trump and I don't like Clinton. I can excuse a lot a shit, everything in fact, except for when people are pleading for their lives begging for protection and you do nothing but roll over and go back to sleep while they die. Fuck that and Fuck Clinton. She took every dime and never made one for herself in her entire life. You should know I voted for Obama because I listen to both sides of the street and if someone has a message and has a idea worth giving a shot to then lets give it to them. More people may be working now then when he took office but they're working shitty jobs they don't want and that don't compare to what they once had and are still striving to return to where they were. I, as an American, endured that shit for 8 years an now Obama care is taking a dump and isn't living up to expectations and I pay more because of people who can't. So when someone who's made a career of making money and working people to get things built well I'm willing to that person a shot even if he grabbed a pussy or two. But now I can't travel because of Clinton followers who have taken to the street and are actually saying that people must die for democracy. I've not had my person win the election each time and I've never gone out afterwards to fight and beat people while calling it protesting. People need to suck this up and let the new President lead the country. Then the first time he's caught grabbing a pussy, like Bill Clinton, we'll then try to impeach him like we did Bill Clinton. Hopefully Trump will be smart enough to also use a cigar so he too can claim that he did not actually have sexual relations with the woman.

We don’t have to do much to convince them. Just let them have what they voted for. They’re want to burn their own towns and salt the earth. A trade war with China, trying to revive fossil fuels, and deporting cheap farm labor are going to devastate rural America, and no amount of school prayer will bring it back. We need to focus on building up the cities and coastal states and get the party ready for Trump’s rural backers inevitably realizing that they got conned.

I have met you a few times and we have had political conversations. You claim to be independent, but you are clearly right leaning. So please don't try to pass yourself off as impartial.
I guess you have a problem of wrapping your head around the idea that it is ok to hate racists and misogynists. In fact, it does not make you as bad as them. Hating someone because they have more pigment in their skin or because they have a vagina is wrong. Hating people because they want to strip rights from people for arbitrary reasons, is not bad. And while yes, that map is very red, the population in those red spots is very small or Trump would have won the popular vote. He is only president because of the electoral college he so despises.

Most people voted for Clinton, which is why she won the popular vote, so there is some hope because more than half the country isn't deplorable. I am proud to say my state of Virginia went to Clinton. So at lest I won't have to move. Luckily I live in the good part of the state, you know the blue part.

I think that right there has more to do with why Trump was elected than any of the "build a wall" or "stop muslims" BS. Let's face it, in order to vote for either of the candidates, one had to be able to look past a lot of shit that went with them. How else can you explain Clinton losing to Trump? If she were a half decent human being, it would have been a land slide victory for her. The same could be said for Trump.

If you truly believe that 50% of the country are racists, misogynists and biggots, that is pretty sad outlook on your fellow Americans. Do those folks exist? Sure. But half the country? I don't think so.
