OMG Politics, I'm over it already.

Let's not discount that supposedly the appeal of Trump is "telling it like it is." Hillary does that and she gets slammed for it. There's a lot to dislike about both Obama and Clinton, but a portion of outrage against them has always been racially and gender motivated.

100% apropos:

While you are correct that a PERCENTAGE of Trump supporters are what you say, I find your "gross geralization" as objectionable as both his and hers...

Painting groups with a broad brush is stereotyping and shows as much or more bias as the bias you're railing against...and I put it in the same category...

As I stated in my response to Smurfco, bias is bias...and intolerance is intolerance...on one side it is based on bigotry and hate, the other is based on elitism, superiority, and judgement...neither side has a corner on the bias market, and neither side can claim innocence...

Intolerance of intolerance isn't. Just like reverse racism isn't.

a question/thought has run through my mind a few times over the last few months. what are these people (the white supremesists, etc.) going to do if (when) trump gets defeated in november? they are very 'out of the closet', so to speak. they've been very loud and vocal (and violent at times), do they just slink away? do they start riots?
Small groups of them take over federal bird sanctuaries, get sent a bunch of dildoes, then surrender to arrest once they run out of buckets to shit in.

Given the GOP’s national effort to disenfranchise minorities anyone who supports any Republican is deplorable. Supporting a racist and xenophobic fascist to lead the GOP makes them even worse then deplorable. Limiting it to just half of Trump’s supporters was being a lot nicer than any republican deserves.

This is exactly the type of thinking and language that's led to this shitshow of an election. You're exactly what's wrong with the world.

"All Republicans are racists."

How is this statement any different than saying things like "all Muslims are terrorists", "All African Americans are violent", or "all Mexicans are rapists"?

Is this really how you want to approach the problem? Is this what " intolerance for intolerance" means? Meeting hatred with hatred is far from constructive...

Just for the record...I am that thing that both parties despise...a true independent...I refuse to subscribe to any single ideology...there are things Republicans believe in that I support; 2nd amendment rights, smaller government, strong family values....and there are things the Democrats believe thatI agree with; women's reproductive rights, universal health care (NOT what Obama care tries to pass itself off as), equal access to education...

My issue with THIS election cycle is the complete lack of a remotely viable candidate to choose from...

My issue with this thread is the level of sanctimonious pronouncements that get made...statements indicate to me that many on the left have become what they claim to be against: hatred, intolerance, exclusion...

If you are going to run on a slogan of "stronger together" then the main goal of your campaign CANNOT be to divide and pit people against each other...there has been very little substantive policy and change being proposed, but plenty of vitriol...

Do I agree that there is a percentage of "deplorable" people attached to the Trump campaign? Yes...but I return to my protest that painting with broad strokes labels people unfairly, as unfairly as labeling all Mexicans rapists and all blacks violent...and all Muslims terrorists...

@Flamencology said it best...America doesn't heal, it lets the wounds fester...and vitriolic rhetoric doesn't address the issue, it just deepens the wounds...

Just on a rhetorical level, being a Republican is a choice. Being a Mexican/etc. is not. That's how the statements are different.

No, sir, I completely disagree...race, creed, or color means exactly that...dismissing all Republicans as racists is equivalent to labeling all Muslims terrorists...being a Muslim is as much a choice as being a republican...and the mindset that goes into labeling a race (Mexicans) is equivalent to racism, sexism, xenophobia, homophobia, and every other -ism and phobia you can name...

In my experience, black people tend to be born black, Mexicans tend to be born Mexican, and they do tend to stay that way, for better or worse. Unless I'm wrong, then that's a legitimate, though possibly subtle, difference.

Ok, same issue...

How is this any different than someone saying that the goal of Islam to to turn the world into a Muslim extremist theocracy? When that gets said the person saying it is labeled an Islamophobe...

So what do we call this? Christianophobia?
