OMG Politics, I'm over it already.

I think Johnson ended what little chance he had by not knowing what Aleppo is.

I would estimate that at least 50% of the American public doesn't even know that Aleppo is a city, and thinks it's either dog food or a hispanic gardener so don't put a fork in Johnson yet.

Yeah but 50% of the country isn't running for president. I had never heard the name Aleppo before this incident but I think it is inexcusable for a presidential candidate not to know that. If you are trying to take down the big 2, you have to be smarter than them, this shows he's not. It doesn't show he is worse, but he has to be better and much better. If he were in one of the major parties, he probably could have survived, but when he is already a long shot, this might be it for any real showing.

I'd vote for Snoopy before I would cast a vote for Clinton or Trump and at 53 years of age I've never voted outside the Democrat or Republican parties.

I think it's also inexcusable for a presidential candidate to be a thinly veiled scam artist who openly courts racists, or to have mishandled classified material to a massive degree. Johnson comes off as a regular guy who's much more reasonable and relatable than the major party candidates, and also likes to get baked. Will he win the election? Of course not, but if he can popularize the libertarian party as a reasonable alternative to the 2-party system, that's a huge victory and a big opportunity for them. The Greens aren't anywhere near this stage in development, and may not ever get there.

You say that as though it's a good thing.

If he can popularize the libertarian party as a reasonable alternative

You say that as though that's a good thing, also.

I am all for more political parties, but I'd never support a platform that I abhor simply for the sake of establishing those parties.

In the meantime...

If only political discourse in this country was actually like this...

In her defense, she later clarified her remarks to be speaking towards the alt-right, which are the brownshirts and white supremacists that have come out of the woodwork to support him VERY publicly, as well as mounting their own political campaigns, saying his rhetoric has inspired them that people might be open to their views. When it comes to those assholes she's spot on.

I understand that, but the constant need for politicians to correct and spin previous comments when they get called out on them, ESPECIALLY when they are conducting a negative campaign like both of these are, is becoming quite tiresome...

I do not at all contest the fact that the bitter fringes of white Americans have latched onto Trump as an electable version of David Dukes, but her initial comments were, to use her word, deplorable, and should never have been made in the first place...running on a slogan of "Stronger Together" is pretty damned hypocritical in light of them...

I still don't see the problem with her calling a spade a spade. Most of Trump's supporters have called spades far worse.
It's making blanket statements the even she characterized as "gross generalizations" that I object to...if you're going to call a spade a spade you'd better make sure you're not pinning that label on people who don't deserve it...

Negative campaigns as both sides are running are designed to appeal to the prejudices inherent to the people you're trying to attract...

Bias is bias...bigotry and hatred on one side, elitism, superiority, and judgement on the other, and both candidates are playing to it...

And "most Trump supporters" is just as unfair as her ststement, the statement that she had no choice but to retract and apologize for...even her side is aware that they nominated a candidate that polls show the majority finds dishonest and untrustworthy..."gross generalities" aren't helping her cause..
.

It was inartfully phrased, yes. But she wasn't wrong.
