Here are my two smith revolvers. As I mentioned, I bought the 586 new back in '90 or '91. The Model 36 is a '74 I believe, I bought it used. I hope to add a Model 38 at some point, or a new 442PC (no lock).

Those are a coupla good looking S&Ws. I like the 586 a lot....dont see as many of those as the 686.

Your model 36 is early 80s or before....on account of the pinned barrel.

Thanks. That 586 is a downright pleasure to shoot, especially w/38 special.

The guy I bought the 36 from said he believed it was from around '74. The serial is J3143XX. Wasn't shot much before I got it.

EDIT: This post here: https://thefiringline.com/forums/sh...e166e43e2ed5afd492484&p=2849563&postcount=131 - seems to indicate my model 36 is a 75-76 - that may be what the guy who sold me the gun said. Anyway, I like the gun. I want to get an older Model 38 as I like j frames and like the shrouded hammer. Here's a sweet nickel one on gunbroker:

If those grips on the 36 are original, they should be serial numbered to the frame in that time period, which is kinda neat.

I love/hate the humpback Smiths. Very functional but very ugly IMO.

Yeah, the grips have the serial on the inside and they match.

It took me a while to like the humpbacks myself, they grow on ya though. I've had a couple of 438s, and they are nice little guns. I want an original M38 though.

@mongooz - that colt is nice looking! Yeah, I bet you wish you still had one! I'd take one of them in a heartbeat.

Dont know about the Mossbergs, but in that class, Ive had great luck with the Marlin x7 line. Between my dad, my uncle, and myself, we have owned 5 in both long and short actions and they've all been trouble free and wayyyy more accurate than expected for the price

I don't have any experience with the Mossberg either. Is that the Mossberg Patriot rifle? What brand of scope comes with it? I bought the Ruger American in 270 Win that came as a combo with a Redfield Revolution scope. It has served me well thus far. I have had it about three years now with no issues.

I’ve seen the vanguards go for really cheap. I’m looking at one of those or either a tikka or savage 110 for a budget .308

I have a savage 110 in 7mm rem mag. Aside from the cheap trigger guard aesthetics (made from some type of composite that works just fine but looks cheap) it is a perfectly serviceable rifle. I've put many hundreds of hand loads through it and it works great and is very accurate.

Never seen a non-lever action mossberg rifle. Only mossberg I've ever owned was a shotgun.

I'm thinking about getting one of these because it looks like fun.

Where I live the laser sight is illegal. The fully automatic 8 inch barreled rifle is fine, but no laser sights. Also, here a pellet gun is considered a firearm.

A couple states and several municipalities in the USA consider a pellet/B.B. gun a firearm. In PDX, shooting a pellet gun in my backyard is considered an illegal discharge of a firearm.

Anything interesting lately for the shooters among us?

Ive been helping a friend to clear out a 100yd range in the woods on his property. We just need to build a shooting bench now and we'll be all set. So that will be pretty great.

I picked up another S&W 3rd Gen auto last week. A model 5906, square trigger guard, very early s/n. Like this

Safe queen with about 100 rds through it. I dont know why but I love these ugly bastards.

i had some hope of a new rifle (all of mine were stolen in a burglary 5 years ago)....but of course the f'ing transmission in the car went south and i'm going to be forced to buy a new car. it is unrepairable, and still owe $5500 on it. not going to be a fun summer.
