fwiw, you can grab a shield for $329 online w/ free shipping right now....that's a pretty steep discount over the going rate of a G43.
Might want to check out the PPS M2 as well if you're in the market

I agree with you on the Shield pricing - if I wasn't looking for pocket carry, I'd still have the Shield. Especially now that they're available without the redundant manual safety. I do think the G43 is a bit pricey, but it suits my needs better than anything else I've found.

I agree that checking the PPS out is also a good option. I rented one and didn't like it, but as always, YMMV.

Had a nice range day today.
There is a guy I work with that has a Highway Patrolman I wanted to check out.
We set up a shoot for today, and a girl I work with heard us talkimg about it.
She has never shot before,
but wanted to try it.
We invited her, and now she is hooked.
We had an M&P Sheild.,my Ruger Match Champion, and tne Highway Patrolman. She was not crazy about the auto. Loved the Highway patrolman with . 357 Magnums.
Once she got used to the pistols she started shooting pretty good. She had trouble with the elevation of her shots, but all were in about a 3" line down the target. Looked like she stiched a zipper in a torso.
:)

She is now lookin into classes at my range.
Her and her best freind ( another girl I brought shooting for the first time ) are starting classes in 2 weeks.

My Highway Patrolman is my favorite of any revolver I've ever owned - even over a Colt Python. She has good taste :)

I'm off to the range again today myself, with my M&P 9 and my new pocket Glock.

I got a new big game rifle over the weekend. A ruger model 77 mk ii in 270 wsm. Gloss blue and a fairly nice walnut stock. It was pre owned but never fired. Perfect shape and came in the original box. Order a leupold vx3 scope in 3.5-10 x 40mm. I'll post some pics when I get the scope mounted.

Anybody else have experience with the 270 wsm?
I like the regular old 270 and the 300 wsm so this should be interesting.

i would never have anything other than a 270 Win. for north america, except for maybe moose or grizzly.
until the WSM came out. a 270 WSM can do anything that you need to do on this continent. period.
probably THE best all around hunting rifle for the western hemisphere, as long as you do your part.
if you're a loader.....ABSOLUTELY hand load for the WSM, you can get an easy 20% more out of it.
and that's saying something.

I haven't really kept up with this thread with my new gun days. :embarrassed:

I think since my last NGD post I've gotten a Kimber Micro Raptor .380 and a Kimber Solo DC 9mm, which was supposed to be Mrs. P's, but the recoil was too much for her.

So, HNGD to me!

270wsm is for sure the round for North America.

especially if you hand load. you have WAY more choices of bullet weights to use, over boxed ammo.
check out Berger Bullets. i've used them since the early mid 80's. spectacularly accurate.
check out their hunting bullets. you won't find a finer one made.

It is a great round. My all around choice for North American round is 7mm Remington Magnum.
It has the same flat shooting trajectory as a .270 but more punch.
YMMV.

Still no revolvers:cry:

I'm always suprised that the 280 remington wasn't more popular. It's a 30 06 case necked down to .284 (7mm) instead of .277 (270).
The variety of bullets is much better in 7mm than 270 and the ballistics are a wash.
I suppose the 7mm Remington mag is the reason why. That's what everybody immediately thinks of when they think "7mm" and "remington"

Being semi auto, you couldn't use a garand in Canada (at all) or some u.s. states (for hunting)

I'll take a model 70 winchester or a good sporterized Mauser 98
I'm not worried about law in WROL. 8-)
