The Baseball Thread.....

also, for almost every game, Amazin' Avenue has an "Unintentionally Sexual Quote of the Game". here's tonight's: "He throws that 6'10" body at you, and that's all you see -- his chest, his shoulders, his legs" --- Ron Darling on Chris Young

i always wonder if the announcers read this stuff. because it's really funny.

Some pics from yesterday, since it was my first visit to Petco, it was quite a bit of fun for me. Really beautiful ball park.

Great pics Phil! I take it you enjoyed the game?

Are the seats on the grass in center field part of the ball park?

Oh yeah. It was a blast. Trevor Hoffman apparently has returned to the Padres for a front office job. During the opening festivities, he came out with one last blast of Hells Bells, the place went crazy. It was a goosebump moment. Navy did a flyover, really was a lot of fun.

And was an exciting game. Bumgarner started well, but then started to choke. We were down 1-0, but then Harang just got better and better.

One thing pretty cool was Rookie Cedric Hunter came out for his first at bat in the majors, and got a hit on the first pitch. Didn't even take a pitch first. That must have felt pretty good starting his career.

Yeah, its called the "Park in the Park". You can sit there for 5 bucks, watch the game. There is a little wiffle ball field for kids too.

Cool! A great way to see a game with squirmy kids.

At Coors Field the seats in the middle of center field are called the Rockpile and are very cheap. Most of the seats are day of the game sales only and are $4.00 for adults and $1.00 for kids and seniors.

Well, if you say that the team that just put a beating on your team sucks, what are you saying about your own team? Managers have to say stuff like that.

he could have just said that with rare exception, every team will win 60 games and lose 60 games. and that any team can beat any other team on one specific night. it's what you do with the other 62 that really counts.

instead he said, "no they're good. don't count them out."

the Mets are still not finishing higher than 3rd place. and I really don't care where they finish this year. they could finish dead last as long as they win 81 games.

...no, Charlie believes that...he does...thats why he is so well liked...he is down to earth, and he doesnt shovel shit...he'll tell you when a team plays like shit, and when a team plays great...hes a ball player, then a manager...

According to the nightly news, the Reds don't suck this year and are in fact playing their best season since the day when I actually cared about baseball. :embarrassed:

The season is only six games in.

And if the Mets went 1-161 Howie would still be talking shit.

If that's the case why play them?

don't mind him. he's trying to delude himself into withstanding the Cubs 103rd worthless season. at least the Mets have the potential to suck less this season than they did last year. not by much, but still, less.

why play the games? so losers like me have something to watch. that's why.
