Return to the Planet of the "Hey Euro's its that time again" Thread.

My brother has been visiting from Holland over the weekend. Had a great time without any alcohol.

Yes, it’s possible, who knew?

We did have a great takeaway curry though on Sunday night. Tandoory chicken drumsticks as a starter, Hot chicken Bhoona, gigantic naan which was just right: fluffy inside, alightly charred and crispy on the outside.

*The Netherlands. :embarrassed:

Pfff getting really depressed with this taxi job. I am even considering getting a boring office job, so I can get at least paid holidays.

I need a beer. I mean, I need a REFRESHING LAGER BEER

Spoken like a true arrogant Randstedeling :embarrassed:

While I am definitely an arrogant randstedeling, I have to say, of all the Dutch accents, the Brabants and Limburgs accents are IMHO the worst. Other accents have some real pleasant sounds to them and can be really nice. That soft G drivel is an absolute abomination though.

I hate Limburgs, but Brabants is pretty close to Flemish. We are proud of our rural roots :embarrassed:

And the posh R and hard G, which sounds like someone bringing up phlegm, is not exactly attractive either.

True that. I'm blessed with the good ol' Rotterdam 'r' though. Still got that g. It's pretty fun to use it here when I say my last name :embarrassed:

3 interviews next week. I have decided that I am willing to take a full-time job for less money than my previous target. As long as it’s a reasonably secure job I’ll be content for now. I can still get some extra money if needs be by doing some weekend taxi shifts until I find a job where I won’t need that anymore.

Doing long hours during the week with no guarantee of making enough money is really grinding me down.

I feel you man, a lot of my friends are taxi drivers and are really feeling it just now as the firm have took on a swathe of foreign drivers who are sucking up alot of the work - some of them are having to be out 70+ hours a week to make the same money they used to.

Nothing to do with foreign workers here, I am one myself after all :embarrassed:

Just doing private hire in a smallish town was never going to be big money. It’s more the fact that you’re dependent on work coming in. You could be out for 12 hours and bring home next to nothing. I can’t deal with that stress much longer. I have no paid holidays and no pension.

I also getting pissed off at having to deal with junkies and alkies and general lowlifes, and dealing with terrible drivers on the road.

If any of you find an envelope with £1,500 in 50s marked: for DAVE - Joiner, can you hand it back to me please?

Pfff, gearing up for the Halloween onslaught. My daughter is super excited so I will have to go all out.

Already spent yesterday afternoon carving pumpkins (turnips are a bit too tough), 3 parties and guising to go...

Oh, and Euro thread RIP.

I'm still checking in! Just haven't had much to say since the whole marriage thing.

Just as an update, our separation agreement came through at the weekend there, so there's that at least. Seemingly, the divorce part should be really easy now. As for me, I'm in a good place. Hope the interviews go well. As I mentioned before, the security of this job has definitely helped to keep me sane through this whole thing.

Ohai.

Life's chaotic as fuck at the moment. Not bad, just chaotic. Loads of random shit. Seems like every thing I do uncovers 5 other small things that need sorting out etc.

I should be getting a new GPU tomorrow to replace the exploded one (yay, warranty, big thumbs up for EVGA for sorting things out ridiculously fast, big thumbs down for geography and post companies taking forever to send shit to and from Finland :embarrassed:

Good to hear your divorce is going smoothly! Not that it’s a good situation in the first place, but often these can turn into a nightmare

Its pointless talking about Holland anyway as when the sea level rises you'll all be forced to move to Belgium. All that will be left is that horrible huge block of flats at Zandvoort sticking out of the sea like the Statue of Liberty in the Planet of the Apes film.
