Quarantine fitness jam

I'm too old to go on the big climbs around here though I have toyed with the idea of riding to the coast and back. But it's about 80 or so miles round trip and I always start and finish from home and that's too far with too much climbing for me. Some real nice scenery especially now before it gets all brown (or burnt :P). I don't like stopping much either when I ride so I rarely take pictures though I did when I was up in the PNW for friends back here mostly to show what the world looks like when it is green in August
Road riding, or any riding, can be difficult up there, as the terrain is often steep up and down, regardless of altitude. I find here, most climbs and descents are pretty steady each way, comparatively. I climb more, likely, but less steep either way up or down. Likewise the mountain roads seem less sketchy and steep. Counterintuitively.

Looking at doing this tomorrow. Oatmeal, fruit, etc. in the morning, then out the door.

Around Bham is flatter than around here for the most part. However some of the climbs are harder because the gravel bike is A LOT heavier than my road bike. Nevertheless if I decide to be stupid I can go up some crazy steep stuff around here. Like I said I try to avoid the 15+ stuff as much as possible unless it really short. I found out the hard way once :P

Looks like a good route tomorrow for you. I don't think I'll put in that much mileage, but hopefully I'll be able to get out earlier enough to get in near 40. Depends on how long it takes to walk the dog first

Yeah, not too steep anywhere on tomorrow’s route. one goodly little climb on the way back out Rock Creek, but not too long, and not too, too steep.

Nice ride. Everyone has done the wrong direction thing once or twice. I try to use google maps street view where I can to look for turns but it's not always available. I got on a single track in Bham once that way when I thought the map was showing a gravel trail...which it wasn't

Yes, I happened to get lucky and catch a signal and find out I was off course. I turned to early off the longer straight section of highway at the bottom of the ride, and ended up climbing a different double track. I double back and found the cut off to connect with the correct road and got back on course. Then I lost signal again. So pretty lucky.

Missed turn should have been at the origin. You can see the extra mileage, or at least where I was headed. I went a little further than I drew, on the left.

This ride was west and south down into the high desert plain and steppe. You can see the mountains on the map starting more toward the north, and how it starts to flatten out as you go toward the south, and toward the Snake River Plain. That said, I did climb over 3400 feet total today.

Managed to fubar my bike within a few days of getting it roadworthy so that's that out of the question just now. :facebook:

Dusted off the old p90x DVDs and burst myself through Chest and Back.

I used to be mad into all of that stuff - Insanity, T25 etc... Got in pretty good shape too despite not following the diets or actually doing the programmes as intended. Needless to say a few years of sitting in the hot tub drinking wine hasn't been kind to the gains.

I'm doing to try and maintain some kind of programme during this though not follow any one in particular, just use the workouts I like to keep me motivated - the idea of doing Plyometrics for p90x tomorrow is already making my head spin.

Something like:

Monday - P90x chest and back

Tuesday - T25 cardio 2.0 or another X3 or 22 MHC cardio one

Wednesday - Back and biceps

Thursday - P90x kenpo, MMX or agility

Friday - Yoga, pilates or stretch

I'm actually getting back into shape for the first time in a LONG time. I saw a pic of myself taken yesterday, and I could see a difference. I've been kettle belling between my mediations during the day, and either hiking or biking after work and on the weekends. It's been a pretty seamless, non-exhaustive change.

Not a lot of weight coming off yet, despite more consistent exercise. But guessing that is due to more calories from being home all day, and muscle fibers changing. I feel stronger anyway, in a cardio, not strength/intensity sense, as downhill skiing is. It is still April. Generally May is when I start to really make some cardio progress on the bike and otherwise. Onward.

We've also been eating super healthy, and I think that's helped too. I don't own a scale, but it looks like I've dropped a little and toned up a bit. Nothing crazy. :)

Those biking nature pictures make me want to move.

Did a surprisingly long 4 mile-ish run on Saturday after Friday's high-rep squats. My legs and hips were stiff and sore but I found I can manage if I keep my stride short. It looks ridiculous but it does the job.

Sunday's deadlift was a good 345lbs.

Planning on another run today. No weights until tomorrow at the soonest.

Bodyweight is staying pretty constant but I have to watch it. The heavy(ier) lifting increases my appetite. I'm responding by eating more protein to support recovery.

Got my Gillian Michaels fitness class in today. Added those ski mobility exercises and some extra stretching. Always feels good, and is good for the core and mobility to support my other pursuits. I could feel my legs from yesterday, for sure!

I've been keeping up with the 3-4 mile runs most days but haven't lifted any weights in 10 days. That ended today, but it wasn't pretty. Instead of bumping the weights up this week, I ended up reducing a bit to make sure I dont sprain my taint. Gonna try to go back to where I left off tomorrow but will probably lose a rep or 2.
Oh well.
Running's been going well. Just short ones but Im doing them regularly and getting fast. No injuries.

Continuing on a roll. Got a good little ride in today. Nothing massive like over the weekend, but a nice little lunch ride with some surging in portions of it to ramp up some intensity.

Got a solid 2fer in today. Ran this morning and lifted this afternoon. Bouncing back pretty quickly from the brief hiatus. Next lift I'm going back up to where I left off.

I will say SVL that the chain looks awfully clean and shiny for all those miles on a gravel road

Great pics!
Brand new only a week+ ago, and still with Shimano's stock lubricant. I wonder what it is, as it IS nice and clean, and I hate to dirty things up with my typical application of Tri-flow or similar, lighter, silicon based chain lube.
