Quarantine fitness jam

It's not much in the grand scheme of fit people/runners in particular, but through lots of consistent running and working on form and some strength stuff, I've gotten my easy (HR<140) pace down to ~9min/mile, which I'm pretty chuffed about.

I'm working out like a madman--it's the only thing I can make myself do these days. But I usually feel like I'm just going through the motions.
I had a really good arm day on Mon., though. I actually had some energy and pushed myself. I actually got to full-on muscle failure on my last set of diamond pushups at the end of the workout and fell flat on my face. Then I made myself do 10 more regular pushups in penance.
It felt good.

Finished out a decent week this morning. 3 5k runs and 3 30min weight routines. No major accomplishments but just easing into things without getting hurt. I'll ramp up again next week and then go full bore the week after.

I didnt wanna get out of bed today but 1wife motivated me, so it's good to have a workout buddy

If I can get a little exercise in on Saturday that means I'll beat the goal

I am reengaging with “noom”, basically a diet and calorie tracking app, with some motivational stuff attached. I did a trial, and then forgot to cancel, so I have a couple and a half months left on what I paid for. May as well use it.

I have been struggling to get back out of Covid weight. And we are headed into winter. And my knee is messed up (some cartilage defect, and meniscus stuff, that needs to be helped with PT, and perhaps some repair. We’ll see. ) Normally, I build a bunch of ski muscle in winter and also put on a little weight. My knee may restrict how hard I ski this year, so i better get going on some other exercise, and improve the diet thing. Once I get going on this, I think I can switch over to MyFitnessPal, which already connects to my Garmin. But since I have some time left on the Noom thing, may as well use it. I just need to clean up some of the types of food, for a majority of the time, and not get lazy on food, and particularly need to limit snacking particularly at night. And though I am in no way extreme, reduce alcohol calories, which typically lead to more snacking.

For exercise, we have a new spin bike, and I have some Pt to do, along with core and fitness at home basics. Just gonna have to get into a habit with that stuff. None of it is particularly fun, per se. I also have Zwift going for cycling, which I like, and could try the Peleton app I suppose.

Basically, it appears I am now of an age where if I don’t keep track a little, and make some adjustments, I won’t be able to maintain fitness and weight, just by doing the normal riding, skiing, etc. I normally do and use to work off calories without thinking about it. Metabolism has just changed with aging into the latter part of my 50’s.

Anyone else try the noom thing? Thoughts?

Just registered for a January 50k that I reallllly hope actually happens - they're limiting registration and using wave starts, enforcing masks, etc so it seems like they're doing everything right
