Quarantine fitness jam

I've been good at keeping at the exercise regimen--I even added 5 mins of jump rope at the end of every session.
I did take one week off of the weights because my rotator cuff is FUBAR, but I started right back up again the following week.
I don't however, seem to have any energy for anything else at all.

Been trying to get in some pushups/planks/situps every other day to get some upper body tone back. Still no sign of gyms opening any time soon here. Riding has been curtailed by the wildfires

Been back on the bike after laying off due to smoke and my knee acting wonky. I got cleared to ride and the smoke cleared. So got back on it. But after pretty much two weeks off, and some smoke and allergies, I felt like crap and really slow on the bike. But, can also feel how that will feeling will drop away again as I stick with it. Just a bummer to have that sort of lay off at this point in the season.

I've been getting 3-4 runs in per week but the weightlifting has been really spotty. It's too dark to run before work these days so I've been running after work. Which means the weightlifting gets bumped. I guess I could get up early and hit the weights but that's a hard thing to do at 530AM.
Oh well. I figure the running is the important thing for overall health and longevity. The weights are mostly just vanity.

Honestly at my age the weights aren't mostly vanity, muscle loss is a serious concern. But it's going on 6 months and the gyms are still closed. I'm no longer sure that it will ever open again which is a shame because I had a killer lifetime deal. I always thought it would be my lifetime not theirs though

The neighborhood running club does an annual labor day weekend 5k fun run. Since everything's been cancelled this year, they decided to make it '5k and beyond', to let people who wanted to do longer distances have something sorta kinda race like, so several of us decided to see how far we could go (doing laps around a local park) in 6 hours. We started at 6am, in a full on downpour for the first 3.5 hours or so, joined in the 5k at 10 and then kept going until noon. I took it nice and easy (and for miles 14-19 I ran home, walked the dog, and ran back to the park) and made it to 50k! (31.1 miles). Totally weird, but also weirdly perfect way to do my first "marathon".

My wife got us a Bowflex c6 spin bike, which is the same as a Schwinn C4. I had an old bike on and old crappy trainer, and this seems way better. I might want to change out the saddle, or get a second saddle mount, so I can put on a saddle more like I ride normally. It has cadence and speed sensors, I can add a power sensor if I want by swapping out a crank, and it has a heart rate monitor strap too. Though I already have my Garmin Fenix 3 which does that for me.

I have signed up for Zwift, after looking at Peleton. I tried it out a couple times this weekend, and it is a lot better for me than the spin classes on Peleton. That still feels like being on a spin bike in a gym. I would rather try to catch virtual people on a virtual race or training ride. :) It is not as good as a purpose built expensive smart trainer, but those are really expensive and take up a lot of room. If I get a used power meter crank, I can connect that to Zwift too for better accuracy as opposed to the calculation they do using your cadence and speed sensors on this bike. Thinking it will be good for my riding, especially for over winter.

Update - my attempt to get back into running was a total bust.

The good news is that since the fitness center here opened up I have been a regular customer. My standard workout is on the elliptical, also like the rowing machine.

going for another weird unofficial marathon this next weekend with a friend. looking to hit 4 hrs or less

Since August, I have done virtually no outdoor, aerobic training because of shit like this (today):

So, at this point, my main source of exercise is pushups. I've started doing sets on M,W,F and am currently up to four/five sets of 30 each of those days. I wanted to move this week to sets of 35, but that was a little much. Maybe next week...

Mojo.

I haven't done any weights in a month or 2 but I'm keeping up with the running. Lately I've been doing a lot of long hills with a kid in the jogging stroller. Which is a biiiiiiiiiiitch but in a good way

How is your posture when you are running hills pushing that thing? Better watch that so you don’t get overuse injury in your lower back or some other related issue. We were a jogging stroller family too. I am older now, and can no longer run. You just want to be careful with that stuff.

That's not too bad I ride if it's less than 150 :P Also my usual routes take me up where it is in the 50's on your map. Of course I've bailed out of the bay are for a while so I missed the latest round from the Glass fire. AQI has been good here. Even when we got smoke it was like 10000' high so no impact to breathing. But it has a will rain here so I'm riding every day while it doesn't so I haven't done any other exercises which I should

Starting to get back on the ball today. I've kept up with a few runs per week so the cardio is decent, but no weights. Ive gotten a little fluffy lately and put on about 5 lbs from when I was good and fit earlier in the year, so decided I need to start getting up early to work out. 1wife is joining in, so that's nice.
Also decided I need to cut out the weeknight beers. I've been having 1 16oz non- light beer each night while I'm cooking dinner. Which is very relaxing, but it works out to about 800 empty calories per week that I dont need. Which works out to about 1lb of flab per month that I dont need to accumulate. So I'm back to saving beer for the weekends.
Im determined not to let the fall hibernation instinct take over this year (which is always followed by the holiday excess.) Not gonna do it. I'm better than this dammit!

Got a run in yesterday and another round of weights this morning. Taking it a little easy on the weights at first so I dont hurt anything on my decrepit ass.
2 out of my last 3 meals have been salads.

Woot!

I've totally lost it since going back to work and getting the dogs.

The past week or 2 ive been telling myself I need to get back at it.

Today for reasons, a bunch of senior kids challenged me to a push up contest. Fools didn't realise that under the wine, beer and red meat loving exterior is a fairly solid upper body. I was thinking I'd manage 20 doing well, I hit 48 wearing my mask. The closest kid to me managed 20 with horrible form

I think I'm going to get beachboy on demand, they've got a new boxing series that is meant to be good and I can dip into all of the old workouts I know I like too.

We bought a nice treadmill a couple months ago and I am starting to use it more. Ramping up my running. Also trying to get in a decent length hike (4+ miles) on Sundays when the weather allows. And keeping up with pushups 5 times a week.

Just got back from a few weeks up in the PNW and I was hoping to start going to the gym again since they are open at reduced capacity. But with the virus numbers spiking nationwide I might wait a bit. Things are not bad here but I expect that to change given how much of the western world is going these days and with major holidays coming up I don't see it getting better. Also it will make my wife happier if I don't put myself (and her) at higher risk. So only pushups and riding for a while longer
