Played my first round of golf today

My golf buddy doesn't allow mulligans this year. He's in a "LEAGUE".

so, he doesn't want to take a mulligan.
doesn't mean you can't. you're not bound by THEIR rules. :eyeroll:

i mean, are you two keeping "competitive" score when you play ? does the looser buy beers or fork over $$ ??
if not, what's the difference ?

My round yesterday was less than stellar. In fact it was probably one of my worst. I was OK off the tee, but my short game was a disaster, and my putting was just not happening. I think the greens were playing a bit faster than the have been at other times. I finally had a decent hole at 18, but I still bogeyed it.

at our level of play, a bogie is really a par, etc.

i'll say it again, because it helps me, but get a pack of ping-pong balls. and practice the "chip onto the green from just off" in the living room or yard.
the balls won't break anything, they don't have any mass. but they do react and sound like the real thing, just shorter. it really helped.

my short game, inside say 30 yards-ish, is actually not too shabby, except for putting, but even that isn't terrible. (i also practice that in the living room. i use a round coaster as the hole. almost the same size  )

my big downfall is getting off the tee and not going into the trees, right or left. once that happens it is automatically a bogie, if i'm lucky.
i'd rather drive it only 200/210/220 and be in the fairway, than 250 and in the trees.

Yeah were being competitive. a dollar a hole. Went to a nice par 3 that always has a nice breeze. It was pretty even, but I blew up a few holes and lost a few balls, lost by 8 strokes.

Just had another lesson.

I need to practice keeping my upper arms in contact with my chest.

Playing 9 with 2 school pals on Sunday. It shall be a slow round I think

Forecast was horrible so we went to the range instead.

The weather held out tbh but they don't play at all so we'd probably have got caught with some bad rain on the last few holes.

Implemented the thing with my arms from the lesson (and a couple of more things about my set up he wanted me to work on). It didn't always come off but when I got that sweet spot I hit some absolute crackers, even the 3W.

I need to keep working on transferring weight to my front foot and following through but I'm feeling good about my progression. Certainly I've swung enough now that when the pro tells me to I can implement it that bit easier and I understand more what it's going to do for my swing.

played 9 today, scored 53. not very good.
but i had a couple good drives, a few good second hits, a few good chips and a couple decent putts.
now if i could put them all together on ONE hole.

partnered up with a couple guys on 7-9. we played them kinda as a 3 man scramble.
we took all mine on 8. good drive, good second, good chip and good putt.

Putter was on fire today! No 3-putts, which might be a first for me on this course. Holed 6 or so from around 10 feet, one was for birdie on 18. Had some mishaps tee-to-green but managed a 90.

hit a small bucket (30) at the range this morning. the driver is starting to straighten out and getting some extra distance.

we'll see tomorrow. got a 12:48 tee time for 9 holes.

Had a lesson today. Have been hitting pretty straight lately, but instructor introduced this wrist rotation thing for better ball contact. I'm definitely going to have to work at this. He got me to not swing as hard and be more fluid in my follow through. When it worked it added 30-50 yards to my drive. Did this three tee drill that improves your swing accuracy.

I reserved a tee time at Torrey Pines North Course for August 31. Looking forward to playing such a legendary course, and taking advantage of my San Diego residency.
i have a scoring pencil from Torrey Pines......a coworker brought it back for me. that's as close as i'm getting

well, shot a 50 for 9. not real happy with how i played.
driver sliced on all but 2 holes, 1 and 9. don't know what the hell is going on there.
wasn't doing that so much at the range yesterday.

Today my putter wasn’t as magical as yesterday, but still made some clutch ones. Also one 3-putt per side, both avoidable grrr. But my swing was better today, carded an 86, best round in a while. Beerworthy!

I was due to pay 9 myself today but some guys from the pub are playing tomorrow so I've added myself to their booking.

Apparently there's a pitch and putt not to far from here so I'm heading over now to check it out. Probably hit the practice cage at the club on the way home.

Meh decided just to hit the cage and practice green at my club. Quite happy with it. Putting I'm just happy to get within 10ft of the pin jist now and managed that mostly.

Definitely getting there with the takeaways from my last lesson - keep my arms engaged with my chest as long as possible on the upswing and follow through on the downswing.

Even hit a few nice ones with the 3w, a few :embarrassed:

Looking forward to tomorrow
