Played my first round of golf today

how far, more or less, from the green were you, mostly......and what wedge were you using?
i generally only use my lob if i'm trying to get the ball up in the air, and if i'm only 20 feet or less of the green, then the lob it out.
i'll grab the pitch and swing it like a stiff putter swing, that way it'll hop up onto the green and run another 10 feet or so towards the hole.
if i'm 30+ feet off the green, i'll take the 8 and do the same.

Didn’t matter if I was 5 yds from the green or 30, I would chip it right to the fringe where it would die and lay there, mocking me.

well, maybe try the bump & run with a longer club, it will put more energy into the ball and it will run further.

Played nine yesterday and course was free of leagues and one man guys on a mission. Hit 50, with a robbed putt and 2 bad holes. Beat my buddy by 1. He said if I didn't miss a few close putts 45 was easily attainable. Hitting drives well, only one flub.

Just hit 100 at the driving range

I did a proper routine instead of just bombing the driver.

Bit of putting
PW
7
4 hybrid
Driver
Then back down.

I rotated my wrist a little and can honestly say I didn't slice a single drive. My aim was pretty good too.

Decent accuracy pitching and for a bit of fun I hit some bombs with the 7 iron and hit the sidings of an island structure which is what you want to hit with your driver.

Finished up with a bit of putting. Landed a great 12 footer just as one of the staff walked by.

Did I ever mention I bought a golf watch, not a super fancy one but cost £150.

I charged it, myself/ Mrs JBJ has put it somewhere and can I find it? Seriously tore the house apart looking for it. Never even managed to play one round with it before it's gone walkies!

Played a late 9 Saturday evening, shot 53 and while that does not look impressive really some nice improvements in driving, fairway shots and pitching… putting killed my this evening.

putting is a whole 'nuther skill.
different grip, different "swing", you don't rotate your hands/wrists/arms, you don't want to brush the grass or take a divot, you have to read the break, you have to control the speed......totally different skill. :thu:

I was really sloppy last weekend. I still feel like my swing is coming back around, but too many bad mis-hits. There was one bright spot, I holed a putt of about 40' to salvage par on one hole.

I hit the driving range on Friday, and I kept hitting everything way left. I was focusing on rotating my hips more, but I think I exaggerated it too much. I went again today, and focused more on my legs, and squatted a bit more in my stance, and I started hitting straight again. I also figured out that I can hit my driver better if I choke down a little bit. I think I need to cut down my shaft a little bit.

i wouldn't advise that^^.
at least not until you've gotten really consistent with the driver, even choked down. once you cut it, and you become more consistent, you can't put those inches back on. those inches are what generates club head speed, and if you get better you're going to want those inches back to hit it farther.
just sayin'

Hit 100 at the range today.

Strength my grip (3 knuckles, it's not very comfortable but it seems to work)

I hooked 1 drive out of about 25, arrow straight or a nice calm fade on the rest

I'm picking up a Dyson fan at a shop not too far from the range tomorrow so I might hit some more.

Booked in to go round my course alone on Wednesday (we'll see the weather) and booked in lesson 8 of 10 with coach Gary on Friday.

For now, I'm just going to choke down on it. I was super consistent on the range when I did that. I'm playing a round today, so I will see how it translates on the course. Hopefully I can reproduce what I did at the range yesterday. Maybe I can get below 120 this time.
