Special counsel Robert Mueller asks for immunity for five potential witnesses in Paul Manafort trial

https://www.cnbc.com/2018/07/17/mueller-asks-for-immunity-for-five-witnesses-in-manafort-case.html

"Special counsel Robert Mueller is asking a judge to grant immunity from prosecution for five potential witnesses whose testimony Mueller wants to compel at the upcoming federal criminal trial of former Trumpcampaign chief Paul Manafort, according to a court filing Tuesday.

If the five unidentified people are not granted immunity — and compelled to testify against Manafort — they would either refuse to take the witness stand or refuse to answer questions by citing their Fifth Amendment right against being forced to incriminate themelves, according to Mueller's filing in U.S. District Court in Alexandria, Va.

Mueller has also asked Judge T.S. Ellis to seal from public view the court motions detailing the witnesses' identities.

"The five individuals identified in the motions at issue are third parties who have not been charged in this matter, and who have not been identified publicly with the case," Mueller's team argued in a filing asking for that sealing order.

"Disclosing the motions would reveal those individuals’ involvement in the investigation and the trial, thereby creating the risk of their undue harassment."

Prosecutors also said that the witnesses could suffer "reputational harm" if their claim of Fifth Amendment protection and grant of immunity were to be revealed publicly."

States with high state income taxes, which the article cites as "Democratic states" are the ones complaining the loudest since they will no longer be a deduction. I didn't see CA on the list, but NY, MD, CT and NJ all fall into the category.

CA isn’t in the lawsuit. That said, property taxes in NY, NJ, and CT are astronomical compared to CA. Hence the lawsuit, and in part, my move.

George Will put another epic literary smackdown on Trumpsky today. I can't believe it's come to this... that point at which George Will's politics are not only no longer offensive, but downright agreeable when compared to the status quo of the GOP.

Total madness. Bizarro world.

Do you think Trump's youngest son is allowed to watch anything he likes on television? CNN?

I’m not entirely confident that Trump’s eldest son is allowed to watch anything he likes on television.

Or maybe they’re all allowed to watch anything they like. As long as it’s not subtitled.

None of them own any books, though, other than Dad’s ghostwritten gems.

Hindsight shouldn’t have been necessary here.

The Trump administration has, from Day 1, been like one of those click bait articles about an obese man who took a tab of LSD and then tried to hug a grizzly cub. “You’ll never guess what happened next!”
I'm speaking more of looking back at the body language of Obama after that Gimp showing in Helsinki.
