Northeasterners: What say you of this Mother of all Storms approaching?

In all honestly, i'd probably be one of the stupid ones that stayed.

Fortunately, i am not faced with that choice.

those on the east coast that think that they'll "ride it out"....will be dead by thursday. this thing is the real deal. i'm 900 miles away from where the storm is right now.....and we're getting 60 mph winds tomorrow BECAUSE of this storm.....NINE HUNDRED MILES AWAY!!!

unless it turns back out to sea.....which it will not.....the costal cities/towns of the east coast from N.C. to Boston are going to be swamped. there is the real possiblity that lower manhattan will be under 4 to 6 FEET of water by wednesday. this is not going to go well. think Katrina of the east coast.

i HOPE i am wrong as hell. but when i'm getting effects from 900 miles away.....two days before landfall.....i'm just sayin' :(

Just wanted to check in on this thread to make sure all affected Weiners are ok. Glad nobody seems to have had massive trouble, hopefully it stays that way :) (Of course I recognize Howie might have a bit of a chaotic few days, but you're safe right dude?)

Ditto. Doesn't hurt to be prepared to batten down the hatches if need be.

I'm in Baltimore. work is closed today (monday). supposed to be a lot of rain and wind or something.

We're closed today too but our data center supports a couple regions not impacted by the storm so they want to keep everything going for as long as possible, so I'm probably going in until all hell breaks loose.

startin' to get windy here. it's supposed to be at its worst this afternoon.

apparently, i'm essential, so i'm manning my workstation.

It sounds like everyone has made some sort of preparations which is good. We have had to prepare many times and nothign happened but a few times we got our asses kicked and it was a good thing we were ready. I've had to replace a roof because of one and that was scary but the biggest problem most of the time is wide spread power outages. It's one thing if your neighborhood is out but when the grocery stores and gas stations are down, it becomes a bit more problematic.

Any of you folks in the path, take it serious and be safe.

The wind is starting to pick up here (north of Boston). We're only supposed to get 1-3 inches of rain, but sustained winds of 30+mph and gusts of 60+. My company refused to shut down, even though the governor declared a state of emergency and requested all non-essential public and private sector workers stay home. This after they sent out an email on Friday saying they would shut down if the governor declared a state of emergency. I'm quite certain they did this to avoid paying everyone an additional day off. :annoyed:

I used to love extreme weather when I was a kid, but now that I'm a homeowner, anything but warm, sunny weather scares the crap out of me. I'm really nervous!

I did a walk around of my neighborhood in Brooklyn at about 8:embarrassed:0 AM.

Light rain. Moderate winds. Not many cars on the roads. Mainly dog walkers and runners are out and about.

There's a high degree of business as usual. I was able to get an egg sandwich at my usual diner, a bottle of OJ at the market, a cup of Dunkin Donuts coffee, and a pack of smokes at corner bodega.

My favorite Italian restaurant wins the preparedness award.

I'm pretty far away too, but the wind is really nasty today. Temp dropped another 10 degrees as well.

My sister works for the Red Cross on Long Island. I'm curious to see what she puts on her Facebook page today :embarrassed:

[sigh]. So, my folks live on Long Beach Island, NJ. Their house is less than 100 yards from the beach. They're already in Florida for the winter, and my Dad just bought a new car so he asked me and my younger brother to go down and get it. So, Saturday afternoon, we did just that and did some clean up in the yard and garage to batten down the hatches. My Mom's sister lives directly across the street, so they obviously saw us pull up, etc. I urged them to leave, as they were closing the only bridge off the island and were expecting flood waters to be 10' above normal. NO -- they have a generator. In the shed. 18" off the ground. They'll be fine. [facepalm]...Did I mention they're in their late 70's???

I have a friend who stayed as well, and he just told me there is already 2' of water on the island. Bear in mind, the storm hasn't even hit yet. He also told me the waves were already at around 25'. 25 fucking feet.

So, clearly my parents in are in jeopardy of losing their house, as are all of my neighbors down there, many of whom are like family. Of course, I'm most concerned about my Aunt and Uncle who are too stupid to leave. I hope they make it though ok. I don't even know what to say anymore. That is all for now.
