Yep.
Just re-watched the clip on youtube. Not sure what today's rules would have done to prevent that. LT tackled him, maybe got a piece of the facemask, but not really a horse collar, and rolled up on his leg on the way down. Theisman's own guys pile on after, which would have been late by today's standards, but it was his own team.Riggins was a beast, as were Csonka and Franco Harris. Campbell was in another class though. The way he would run through people was impressive.
The game has changed a lot since the 70s. It's more about speed than power now. I'm sure Joe Theisman wishes they had some of today's QB rules back then. Of course, we wouldn't have one of the most disturbing highlight reels in history if that was the case.
I like that power game, peppered with a good air game. Which was why I loved the Marshawn era Seahawks so much. Also, power with grace. Watching Lynch's lower body cut back and forth and propel direction changes underneath that huge and strong torso and center of mass was a thing of beauty. Riggins was a beast, and very effective. I don't think he was as aesthetically impressive to watch. More like a guy in rugby that can move the whole scrum himself. Otherwise looked like a huge drunken sailor careening down the hotel hallway. Both he and Marshawn had that amazing second (and third) efforts for yards after contact.
