National Football League 2018

I have a delightful stat nugget for @Chad !

Cousins’ last 6 games of 2017: 1297 yds, 10 tds, 8 ints, 3-3 w/l

Smith’s first 6 games of 2018: 1383 yds, 7 tds, 2 ints, 4-2 w/l

Seriously. Why the fuck does this keep happening?
Because stupid rich assholes keep thinking they can get richer by repeating failed history. In reality, LA can't even support 1 NFL team. No one cares enough to struggle through the maniacal traffic for several hours each way just to spend an ungodly amount of money on tickets and parking when they can just stay home and watch it for free on a giant 4K TV. No matter where you put the stadium, ingress and egress will be a nightmare. All the public transportation in the world won't matter either, because it just simply can't work. People in LA drive. They're not going to leave their car at home in order to take a bus or two, or three to a metro terminal to pack into an overcrowded train just to get to a football game before doing it all in reverse to get home.

The city is a logistical nightmare. The Dodgers just made it to the World Series, and will have a hard time selling out Dodger stadium for the home games. I've gone to play off games there where you could walk up and buy tickets at the gate just before game time, and a football stadium would have at least double the capacity.

The only reason the Raiders had any success their was because of the "Raider Mystique" and the endless supply of thugs willing to pack the Coliseum.

The Rams didn't even play in LA the last time they were here, they played in Anaheim which is in Orange County, at a "small" stadium by NFL standards, that they couldn't fill. After they bounced to St. Louis, that stadium got a much needed conversion to a proper Baseball park.

It won't matter how big, how fancy, or how state of the art a new Football stadium is or how much is spent constructing it. They will never fill it with NFL fans. They might fill it occasionally with soccer fans for special occasions, or if all four original Beatles played a show with Jesus as the opener, but that won't keep the lights on the other 364 days of the year.

San Diego suffers some of the same issues as LA, but not anywhere near as extreme. The old Stadium was always problematic. It was in a ridiculously bad location (an actual fucking riverbed) that was a pain to get in and out of, and was simply too long in the tooth to remain viable. After the Padres moved to Petco Park, the stadium revenue vs the cost of upkeep became untenable.

Right now, there is a ballot initiative that would render "The Q" officially dead. It would be a new sporting complex and new home for the SDSU Aztecs football team. If it passes, it becomes a golden opportunity for the Chargers to come home with a much smaller investment than any of the previous failed attempts to get a new stadium.

Dean could be a hero by offering to pony up a few hundred million dollars to expand the proposed project to accommodate the team. It's a no-brainer.

But... he has no brain.

You’re shiftier than a young Joe Washington!

Just pointing out things that actually matter. One of Kirk's last 6 games was against the Cowboys. In that game Alf ran for 127 yards against the skins and Perine got a whopping 38. Yesterday's game, Peterson went for 99 and Elliot was held to 33 and if it wasn't for a phantom snap call, the skins probably still would have lost.

But if you want to stick to your way, Kirk in the first 6 games last year was 1637 yards, 12 TD and 3 picks. It seems silly to compare last 6 to first 6. In the last 6, players are beaten down from a long season. Kirk was 3/3 win/loss, but 2 of the losses were to the Super Bowl champs and the other was to a conference champ.

In a strange alternate reality, the Redskins are “beat down” in weeks 12-17...yet their opponents are fresh and not dealing with injuries!

Why? Because Kirk. That’s why.

during the last 6 games, Jordan Reed, Chris Thompson, Shawn Lauvao, Spencer Long and Rob Kelly were on IR. Trent William was on IR for the last 3. When your top 2 offensive weapons are out, your starting running back is out and your perennial pro bowl left tackle is out, the offense is going to suffer.

I'm sure Alex would throw for 400 yards a game 6 TD and no picks if he lost all of that.

You really need to move on from Kirk. It wasn't you it was him. He just wasn't ready for a commitment. Enjoy the wins, stop living in the past and live in the now. Stop dreaming about how things could have been.

Saucy stuff from Mr. 4 and 12.

I got to see a fight outside a bar (might have been an English Pub of some kind, only place we could get a seat for food, which wasn't bad) in the gaslamp quarter after a Padre's game let out last spring. Pretty amusing. Not much of a fight. More rooster strutting, a quick wrestle and a couple punches, one guy down briefly, then breaking up and more rooster strutting and finger pointing. Amusing in a sad sort of way.

Might have been the Union Pub. Can't remember for sure.

What made this stop?

Riggins was a beast, as were Csonka and Franco Harris. Campbell was in another class though. The way he would run through people was impressive.

The game has changed a lot since the 70s. It's more about speed than power now. I'm sure Joe Theisman wishes they had some of today's QB rules back then. Of course, we wouldn't have one of the most disturbing highlight reels in history if that was the case.
