National Football League 2018

NFL Owners and league officials are meeting to discuss the Chargers' "Viability in LA" due to the abysmal ticket sales and general disinterest of Angelinos.

This comes quickly on the heels of long time owner and patriarch of the Spanos family (Alex Spanos) passed away. His sons have been running the team for years, but they did so under the old man's thumb. Dean Spanos is an asshat, but now he has full autonomy and the freedom to exercise it.

Basically, the NFL won't let them continue to flounder in LA much longer because of lost revenue. There will be a point in the near future where they make a push to move the team to a more viable city... well, guess what?

There really aren't any. At least none that could immediately host them, and none that even want them.

Meanwhile, a pair of ballot initiatives are going to the polls here in San Diego next month that each include a large sporting venue.

I predicted three years before Dean tucked his tail between his legs and came crawling back...

Lols.
Wait...you mean LA can't sustain 2 NFL teams? That's amazing! We've never seen anything like that before. :)

Even though the Chargers began in LA, they belong in San Diego and should return.

I do know that many Angelinos wanted the Rams back and then you have the Raider fans who also wanted them to return too. But there really wasn't a big rush to take the Chargers.

They will be the second European-based NFL franchise after Jacksonville moves there.

I don’t think the Jags can move there until 2026. I can’t remember the full details, but there was something in the contract when Shad Khan bought the team that required him to keep the team there unless there were 3 consecutive seasons where the team lost money. Which is almost impossible to do with the TV contracts and salary cap. That doesn’t mean they couldn’t play more games in London than the 1 per year. Kahn also pulled out of the Wembley Stadium purchase. He has also invested a ton of money in Jacksonville.

To me, the Raiders were Oakland. And Marshawn's connection with that community, now through the Raiders, is laudable, (was when he came to Tacoma too) even though they/he are not as successful as they want to be.

I know a buddy of mine who was raised in SD who would love the Chargers to be there. Somehow the idea of any existing team going to Nevada seems yucky. They should have some sort of Runnin' Rebels-esque expansion club or something.

But maybe the numbers don't work for any of that to happen.

As long as a Davis is in charge, the Raiders will do something stupid.

The Jaguars are literally killing me this year. My heart can't take it anymore. Bortles with 2 scrambling fumbles, Cole with 2 drops, Yeldon tips one into the defense's hands.
They are so inconsistent it's just irritating.
Too many injuries. 13 guys called up from the practice squad. It's gonna be a rough season.

Would you rather be a Browns fan?

My brother lice in Jax Beach and has been a season ticket holder for close 20 years. I was telling him this summer how dumb the Jags were for giving Bortles that extension, he didn't seem to think so. I keep wanting to do the 'I told you so' call but I'm going to hold off until the sting of the season wears off. They would have been better off with any of the 3 the Viking moved on from. Maybe they can trade for someone, or sign Kaepernick. I mean Kaep did almost win a super bowl 5 years ago.

Good point. It's just a roller coaster though. Which, IMO, is worse than being flat out terrible for decades.
I've been a Jags fan since day one. Grew up in Jacksonville. Went crazy when we got the team. Went more crazy when we made the AFC Championship so quickly. Stuck around through the woes and almosts. I see a lot of potential and then it just falls apart. I get it, most NFL teams experience the same thing, but the Jaguars have come a long way over the last 5 or 6 seasons. I'm just ready for some consistency even if it means going 8 and 8.

Jacksonville has enough trouble getting fans into the stadium. If they signed Kaepernick they would riot in the streets. Jax is not a blue town by any stretch of the imagination. Kessler didn't look terrible yesterday, he's just green. Bortles coughing up 2 fumbles is just unacceptable. He takes the heat but that alone doesn't fix the issue.
