Mental health check-in

Anxiety is through the roof today. We are getting a new stove for the kitchen here at work. Delivery window is 10am to 2pm. It's 7 minutes to 2, about to storm, and no stove. I have movers scheduled at 2 to bring it into the building since it weighs 450lbs. I'm about to lose $340 and have a 450lb stove in my parking lot getting rained on that I can't move into the building.

I am a bit in edge this past week.
I still don't know what my job situation is.
Going through tests for my oncology appointment next week.
Working with the VA about a claim I submitted.

I got my patrscaster completed.
I might buy an audio interface,if my 2 CL items sell this week.
Went to lunch with a lady I really like. Meeting her and another girl for lunch tomorrow.
Went for a ride through the mountains this evening.
At least I have those distractions.

Sleep will be tough tonight.

Robert Fitzgerald. I know there are a couple better, more recent translations, but this was on my bookshelf. What's the current recommended translation?

Couldn’t tell you. I grew up with Lattimore, but my Ancient Greek is extremely rusty. I loved Emily Wilson’s translation of The Odyssey, though, so I’m excited for her Iliad.

I hope you got this sorted.

After my little meh blip at the start of the week it's turned out pretty good all things considered. Which is good because after spunking over £5k on taxes from the DJ business in January, I got another letter from the tax man asking for another £1.5k yesterday morning

It was Mrs JBJs birthday yesterday. This is the first one in 7 or 8 years we've actually been in the country so I made a big Indian meal and we watched junk on the couch.

Woke up stupid early today - like 5am and couldn't get back to sleep. Read the news on my phone then got up and went to the recycling centre. I tried earlier int he week and it would have taken my well over an hour to get in but I rocked up to the queue at 10 to 9 and was out of there for 10 past. Had a nap on the couch and then did a cardio workout before lunch. Definitely seeing results even though I've not been quite as hardcore must do 5 workouts every week as I was when I started working out about week 3 into lockdown.

My pal is coming to fit some long needed new carpets upstairs this afternoon and I just need to finish a few stupid hunting quests to get 100% completion on Red Dead Redemption 2 so that's my mission for this afternoon.

Oh yeah, I ordered some snazzy football tops for me and my nephew yesterday evening. It's the team all of my family in Belfast support and I've been trying to snag one since they went on sale. My cousin messaged me letting me know they're doing pre-orders now so FINALLY in something like 12 weeks time :embarrassed: I'll be cutting about in this:

Apples to oranges I suppose, but Wilson's Odyssey was more readable and enjoyable than Caroline Alexander's recent Iliad translation. The glossary and supplemental materials were better organized and more useful too. With Alexander's Iliad, unless you already know the page or line number that some unfamiliar term or name was first mentioned, you can't find that info in the footnotes.

Been really enjoying going slowly through Robert Alter’s translation of the Hebrew Bible. Love having tons of annotations in my mythology.

Have you checked out books that break out the J, E, D, and P writers of the Torah according to the documentary hypothesis? Not sure how good their translations are, but they do a good job of explaining the reasons for conflicting parallel stories like the creation narrative.

Bloom, not an expert teamed up with David Rosenberg to extract just the J writer stories in this one

I feel like we're drowning in a sea of chosen ignorance.

A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen and philosophers and divines. With consistency a great soul has simply nothing to do. He may as well concern himself with his shadow on the wall.
— Ralph Waldo Emerson

So, anyone have some tips on how to get yourself to settle down and meditate a little, or at least try a little breathing type mindfulness, when your mind doesn't want to slow down enough to do so?

Gonna look up some at home bi-lateral stimulation techniques. That has helped me in the past.
