LP Special Doublecuts??? Let's talk about 'em.

Has anyone played one of these?

The guitarist in my band has one of those 2015 deals with the robo tuners removed. It’s fine to play—I doubled some rhythm parts on it on our first album. Sounds good. He swapped the bridge for some Wilkinson thing with individual saddles. At $500 to $600 is a good guitar. At $1k, I’d look elsewhere if only because that metal zero fret/adjustable nit situation seems like a potential long term hassle—but my dude has eleven-hundredy guitars and doesn’t play unless summoned so I doubt he’ll wear anything out before he shifts it for more gear. I mean, I think I’ve played his Martin D-28 more than he has.

It was a great guitar that came with too many issues. I had one and absolutely loved the tone and feel, but after replacing the nut and the tuners and failing to get it to intonate even into OK territory, I gave up on it. And the Les signature and hologram just reminded me that I'm gonna get old and die haha

Ohhhhh yeah the Dr Evil hologram was legit creepy

Are we looking at single cuts now? Because if we are, Vintage offers this for $450...

Personally, when it comes to real deal Gibby Specials, I prefer the neck PU placement and balance on the SC instead of the DC. On a Jr, it's a push.

I spent some more time with the Heritage this afternoon. Damn this is such a great and simple set up for a guitar, it makes you feel kind of silly for having anything more complicated. It just sounds so good!

huh, very interesting. is that the same guitar you posted previously, with the bigsby?

No; different guitar.
The one I purchased is built like the typical LP Spc.
The one in the photo is a Duke prototype from late 2005 to early 2006.

Thinking about things, would love input on this idea:

I have a Les Paul Custom with 3 humbuckers. I never use the middle pickup. What if I dropped a P94 in there (humbucker sized Gibson P90)? My initial thought is that in the middle position I would get a pretty blah P90 sound. What say you? Not concerned with resale value issues as I'll never part with this guitar and I can always put the humbucker back in.
