LP Special Doublecuts??? Let's talk about 'em.

I have one of the custom shop models. It is really a fantastic guitar. I bought a "floor model" from Chicago Music, and when e-mailing with the sales guy on Reverb he said the "floor model" version the listed had a big scratch on the front that wasn't in the pictures, so they would send me another new stock one for the price I paid for the floor model. I think I paid 2 grand for it. Gibson was discontinuing this finish and the newer version had hum buckers and a flame top(???). Still that was a lot of money for such a guitar, but the workmanship on the frets and finish on this thing is great. The noises this thing makes are incredible. It has no intonation issues with 9's and 10's, although I have not tried fatter strings. If you can find one of these out there, buy it.

Possible neck crack for sure and a big nasty gaping wound on the back of the neck. I had a Sykes LP Custom from Edwards and some other LP Custom, can't recall the model. They were both great guitars.

yeah, I don't mind the dings so much, but that V checking scares me.

Where does one find these guitars? I'm not seeing much on google other than forum posts about them, any tips on sites to check out?

Yahoo Japan auctions & individual shops in Japan are the typical sources.
There are proxies you can utilize, if need be; From Japan, Buyee, Jauce, Rinkya, etc., are the most well known but there are others.

Definitely a possibility and I had a Gary Clark Jr. SG for a while. Sold it because the neck dive was horrible and the middle pickup was a pain in the balls. My issues with SG's in general are they feel like I could just snap the neck off, the strap button on the heel is really uncomfortable for me, and the neck dive that some of them have... two many issues with a pricey guitar like the Gary Clark. I was lucky to flip it for a couple hundred bucks profit. But... they're one of the coolest looking guitars out there IMHO.

So, LP Special DC is still a big contender but if the right SG Special popped up I could be tempted.

I had an LP special DC a while back and it had some serious neck dive too.

What about an SG Sepcial?
i had a '61 SG Special with P90's, back in around '77.
great sounding and playing guitar.
would have kept it if the neck wasn't 4 pounds heavier than the body
all i ever got done was pulling the neck up. it got tiring.
dumped for a '71 LP Deluxe. much better.

I've had mine for about a year and I ordered it used from Ishibashi. It's a fantastic guitar and the whole process was painless. Chunky neck, no fit or finish issues, and the Duncans are fine but I'll probably upgrade eventually. Paying twice the price for something with Gibson on the headstock is bananas. What else would you like to know?

If that goes missing it is not, I repeat, NOT in New Jersey...
