LP Special Doublecuts??? Let's talk about 'em.

If this didn't have the horrible baby poop burst and came in all black i think i'd be sorely tempted.

I think that's terrible lighting/exposure. That looks like a standard tobacco burst.

I don't like that type of tear drop burst either so even if the color isn't well-represented I'd still pass. this model came in a limited orange sunset too which was sexy as hell but they're much rarer.

My vague recollection is that the Dakota (650D), now discontinued, had a wider neck, but I don't know that all 600 series do. I did go to the Ric site, and it seemed to bear that out, as I compared the specs for the 650D (the specs are still up although the guitar isn't still being made) and the 620, and the Dakota was noticeably wider. I have a 620 six string, and it is narrow to the feel.

Thanks. Maybe I just need to shove my left-hand fingers into a pencil sharpener...

OK block, now, you really are NOT playing fair, as you are moving the goal posts.

I recently sold this
https://reverb.com/item/34275720-20...very-rare-mint-condition-lacquer-100-original
which you could have pretended had P-90s

or you could pretend the one pictured below has P-90s too :thu:

Sorry to hear. I really like my 620/6 but I guess I won't know how I like a 12 string until I finally get one. I don't foresee one in the near future though.

Don’t let bsman put you off entirely. My buddy has a 360/12 from the ‘70s and it’s a very playable guitar. The thing with Ric 12s is that you’re not just dealing with the narrower neck but also it’s a 12, it has little frets, a lacquered board, the overall neck profile is unique and not a familiar “modern,” comfy feel. So there’s a lot of difference vs. your usual strats or teles or Gibsons. It takes a while to get into it, but they’re certainly playable. The bigger issue is probably whether or not you’re looking to play enough electric 12 to get used to it and justify the expense.

CME has done a couple runs of exclusive Gibson LP doublecut specials/juniors that were pretty nice at $900-ish. Might also be worth looking for as well.

That’s good to know. There are so many variations on a theme with so many different names, searching the webz becomes a rabbit hole.

Seems the used market in general has shrunk during the pandemic as well and prices shot up.

Those stupid $500 2015 abominations are going for circa $1k. One guy is selling one with no electronics for $750. Maddening. I might have to just go steal one.

The guitarist in my band has one of those 2015 deals with the robo tuners removed. It’s fine to play—I doubled some rhythm parts on it on our first album. Sounds good. He swapped the bridge for some Wilkinson thing with individual saddles. At $500 to $600 is a good guitar. At $1k, I’d look elsewhere if only because that metal zero fret/adjustable nit situation seems like a potential long term hassle—but my dude has eleven-hundredy guitars and doesn’t play unless summoned so I doubt he’ll wear anything out before he shifts it for more gear. I mean, I think I’ve played his Martin D-28 more than he has.
