Kemper Gang?

I’ve heard mixed reviews about the kemper power amp. You’d prob be better off using the power amp of your choice. Rack footprint is more amenable to that too

I was trying to minimize the weight of a rack in a case with an amp. Part of me does like the idea of having different choices on how to power the signal (monitor, guitar combo, small footprint power amp into guitar cab, etc).

Get a small rack, kemper, amp, maybe a wireless system

I've been tempted by the Kemper power head thing for a while now.

Go unpowered, more options available to you in the form of powered speakers/monitors, or a better quality power amp.

I bought a ton of profiles from MBritt during cyber Monday. I think I got ~100 profiles for less than $30. Maybe I can get them loaded up today.

Interesting. I thought the power head had the 'all in one box' thing going for it. I have a 2x12 and a 4x12 cab with good speakers that I could use for the output. You recommend getting the regular Kemper and an external power amp? I mean, I have the cabinets, so it seems a power amp is all I need. Do I want a stereo amp? My guess is no. Any suggestions for something decent that is like 1 rack space?

I haven't used a powered kemper personally, but from various sources I've learned that:
1. yes the powered unit is an all in one box solution if, for example, you want to plug into a guitar cab (and you'll need to disable the kemper "cab")
2. there are powered speaker options that don't require a power amp (since the speaker has it built in), you can use these with a powered kemper too, however
3. some folks don't love the built-in power amp that comes with a powered kemper
4. i can't recommend a great power amp for you because i haven't found one yet. the quilter 45 does the job for me because it's cheap and small, but it definitely adds some color to the sound that i don't love.

It's just like all gear, totally subjective and YMMV. For playing at home, a powered kemper is more than sufficient. if you're playing out, you may or may not want to shake it up.

Seems like the Kemper FB group is leaning towards the Mateix GT1000fx power amp as THE top shelf amp for Kemper.

@baimun, you gave me a great video idea on the bass patch thing.

So I did a video on the subject

Imo, it does work rather well.

Keep saving

edit: actual playing from about the 2 minute mark.

just checked this out and based a fake bass tone off it, but i used the chromatic rather than the harmonic shift. just used a profile with a vintage marshall guitar rig. my tele neck pickup does a serviceable P bass for recording a demo. i turned up the definition and added a little compression in teh amp module. tweaked the pick amount a little too. sounds great! Pure Tuning on, Formant shift off because it sounded like a ring modulator (what's that about?)

The M Britt profiles I bought on sale are epic. Highly recommended:

69 Marshall Vintage Pack
JCM 800 Pack
‘65 Vox AC 30 Pack
Tweedy Pack (56 Pro, 56 Twin, Blues Jr, etc)

Just don’t update to the beta amp software right now. I hear it’s extremely buggy

[thumbs up smiley]

I treat gig gear like "production vs beta test". I would only run beta at home... since I plan on gigging with the Kemper, it will only be with the latest greatest authorized release.

just pulled the trigger on a B stock Orange Pedal Baby. The quilter micro block just didn't work for me. I'm hopeful about the Orange for running Kemper into a guitar cab for practice and gigs.
