Give me something to watch on Netflix

Designated Survivor on Netflix started out interesting and fun but quickly turned into a predictable, completely unrealistic snoozefest.

I finally saw Joker on HBO/Amazon and I absolutely loved it.

I also recently re-watched Band of Brothers and The Pacific on HBO/Amazon.

The Night Manager on Amazon Prime is pretty good so far.
You had me thinking I'd just eaten a big bowl of crazy pills. I'm going, "Huh? Didn't they just do a version of this a few years ago?"

Anyway yeah, it's a great adaptation.

Is it a few years old? I didn't notice when it was made, just mashed the play button.

When is Better Call Saul season 5 going to hit Netflix? The wait is making me cranky.

This was pretty engaging. Olympic levels of hubris and fuckery.

I just watched it. Really a great show about the weirdness of the art world. I was excited to see the museum just up the street from me on it. The Beyeler Foundation is a pretty cool museum that is the display place for a giant collection of modern art.

Here is me and a lifetime buddy and former bandmate turned bishop, father Tom, who visited me at the time of the young Picasso exhibit at Beyeler about 1.5 years back. Tom is holding all the purchases from that trip, a couple of biographies from the book shop. I guess we are not real art buyers, lol. I think we bought some beer and whisky right after this and headed back to my house for a long discussion on the nature of the universe. Tom is an interesting guy to talk to about such things, as he has his religious take, but also holds a Ph.D. in biochemistry, so he has a rather interesting and complex perspective than the typical religion vs. science take. He has also read, and can quote, more books that I have even seen in my life, and spanning a massive range of subject matter. He is the most learned man I know, when one considers the breadth of knowledge. I met him when I was a grad student in the same Ph.D. program. Our paths have drifted over the years, but we cross paths periodically and it is always a welcome thing. It usually ends with us being rather drunk an me trying to buy his early 70's Gibson SG and his Steinberger.

Not shown in picture is my wife who is behind the camera. She might be represented by the painting on the wall behind us.

I liked Behind Her Eyes bunches
We watched that and enjoyed it very much. When it started to get really weird there toward the end, we thought it might have jumped the shark. But then all was explained.
Thumbs up!

It was an interesting watch, no one comes out of it looking great imo.

The art (and to a lesser extent, fashion) world's mystify me.

It's mind blowing that a practically identical painting can drop in value from +$10million to almost nothing based solely on who the artist was. I understand the economics and psychology of it but still...

The more you get into modern art, the weirder it gets - it's a trite observation but I don't understand how a canvas with a few blade cuts through it or, my personal favourite I've seen IRL: a literal pile of bricks, rubble and chains dumped on the floor is artistic never mind worth SERIOUS £££ yet there they are on display in the Tate.

Any way, to the original topic.

We've been watching a doc series called Captive. It's bitty depending on the episode but it tells the story of people who have been kidnapped across the world. It's quite fascinating and a bit different from the usual murder crime docs they're churning out just now.

There's a new one about BIGGIE we'll probably watch over the weekend too.

For braindead junk after a day stuck in front of the laptop I've been watching Brooklyn 99. My wife hates it but for half an hour to switch off and decompress after work, it's put together well enough. I'm nearly through them all and coming to the realisation that all of the characters are terrible people in some way or another - will be interesting to see how they wrap it up, I think they're shooting one more season.

Streaming series, though not on Netflix...

I’ve recently loved It’s a Sin and Dickinson. Would strongly recommend both.

Since Wandavision is done and we have a week until Falcon and Winter Soldier starts.... We have just gone back and are rewatching the series "Imposters". Very fun (and often funny) thrill ride of scammers, hustlers, and people who are sick of getting fucked over.
