Baseball 2018

I don't know anything about the background of all this, but go get 'em, Syndergaard!

In the 2015 playoffs, Chase Utley broke Ruben Tejada's leg sliding into second base. The Mets went on to win that series and lose to the Royals in the World Series. Ruben wasn't the greatest player in the world, but Chase Utley is one of baseball's biggest assholes. So the next time they played, in May 2016, Syndergaard threw behind Utley and was promptly ejected. Shoulda thrown at his head.

PS, did I ever tell you my Grandma on my Dad's side was a Met's fan? She gave me a book entitled "Those Amazing Mets" when I was a kid. Must have been an original hard cover version of this one. She gave it to me in the early 70's.

Yeah, I finally found something on it and was reminded. I think I remember replays of that slide. As I said, go get 'em, Syndergaard! Too bad they couldn't follow up Syndergaard with The Unit and have him keep right on throwing at them. On a fantasy team anyway.

That's cool. The Mets were actually good in the late 60s and early 70s. Then it all came apart again.

Nah, HIAR hates tradition. And Umpires start ejecting players and Managers when bean balls start flying these days. And RJ is retired, so he's have to throw from the seats.

Well, I did say fantasy team for that reason. I don't care about tradition that much. Just was enjoying seeing Syndergaard stick up for his guy. I like the view these things as individual acts rather than as part of a set of unwritten rules. Even if some feel bound by such things.

Understood, but the players all know the history so as a fan it also helps to understand the precedents set and why they react to certain situations as they do. They are definitely inter-related.

Were I a talented baseball pro, I would probably want to mess with people and do unexpected things. And also to take myself, and the sport, less seriously, and less like it is some sort of religion.

Hey, I thought you didn't like that guy?? But, he IS a niner now.

I was referring to our discussions regarding him back when he was the biggest spoon on the seahawks.

Yeah, he's one of ours now so I have accepted him. Still hope he uses his talent more than his mouth.

Given the state of our country, I will not criticize him for saying anything he wants with regard to race and related political stuff. I did not personally care for his after and during game stuff a time or two, especially when he let his emotions get away from him and he got into it with coaches and players. Hopefully he has that under control for you guys. I look forward to facing him when our teams play. At his best, he is still a great player. RW better be careful with what chances he takes. Though I would bet there would be a competitive thing that might result in RW trying. Especially if our offense is still founded on RW improvisation.

@335clone Also, my antics would be more light hearted and less in a person's face mostly. Though I would definitely kneel, etc. along with any of my teammates in accordance with the current issues. Even though mostly Baseball has not done much of that. But also, if there are "traditions", knowing myself, I might find myself violating said unspoken rules now and again, just because I was raised with a bunch of tradition and formality, and tended to rebel against it.

Yeah, my comment about his mouth was about the on field stuff, not political/anthem/race stuff.

I know he's looking forward to facing his old team, so our match ups should be very interesting.
