What does Bernie Bro mean to you?

The term is much-overused and it's a gross generalization ... but those it fits, it fits to a T.

It's a vocal minority of supposedly-progressive, entitled, self-important Bernie supporters -- generally young white guys -- who made frequent sexist-oriented attacks against Clinton, her supporters and journalists that they felt didn't support their chosen candidate enough. They used these tactics incessantly, trolling forums, comment sections and social media throughout the internet.

It's the same type of tactics and attacks and attitudes found in GamerGaters ... and I suspect there is significant overlap in the actual people as well.

In the real world, they often didn't have their ducks in a row when it came to the primaries: either not understanding the rules, or neglecting to register in time to cast their votes in the primaries. And when exceptions weren't made for their lack of preparedness, when they weren't allowed to cast their vote because they hadn't done what they should have, they resorted to shout-whining about the "establishment conspiracy to suppress their voices" ... when the blame lay solely with themselves.

These guys, frustrated that their candidate was defeated, falsely claimed that information revealed by the DNC hacks showed pervasive DNC collusion with the media and the Clinton campaign to defeat Bernie and to silence them. They would claim that the evidence was there and was clear as day, but when pressed to provide links to it in the DNC emails, they couldn't. Because they had been convinced of its existence by their fellow Bernie supporters, but when they went looking, they found out it was an old Bros' tale. And that further confused and angered them.

Once Clinton won the nomination, a sizeable chunk of these Bros went on to support Trump in a fit of thwarted pique because so much of their political identity had been wrapped up in "Not-Hillary!!!" that they would throw their weight behind the Devil himself to defeat her.

A friend of mine was sort of caught up in the Bro phenomenon due to his heavy involvement on Facebook and many, many friends in the Houston club scene. He sent me tons of links purporting to expose the perfidious DNC/Clinton/Media cabal that was suppressing Bernie and his supporters. I would research them, send him back actual, verifiable facts refuting the wild-ass Bro claims, and he would end up confused.

After the election, he sheepishly saw the error of his ways and feels kind of foolish about it now.

In the real world, they often didn't have their ducks in a row when it came to the primaries: either not understanding the rules, or neglecting to register to cast their votes in the primaries. And when they weren't allowed to cast their vote because they hadn't prepared properly, they shout-whined about the establishment conspiracy to suppress their voices. When in fact, the culprit was their own lack of clue.

The saddest part is that they supported Bernie but acted in exact opposition to his message.

Kinda like most Christians.

Still, we need those Bernie Bros to come to the light. Help them find a way to grow beyond ideological inflexibility and muster the courage to find common ground within the diversity of the mainstream and embrace compromise for a greater good. Somewhat like raising a precocious teenager...

The Trump trainwreck should be quite helpful to that end and the 2018 midterms can't come soon enough!

Trump's proposed budget is scary as hell. Ten percent or more cuts to everything to pay for 10 percent plus increases for INS, Homeland and the military. Welcome to the police state.

i think everyone has misunderstood (by way of major misdirection) the intent of THE WALL. it ain't to keep mexicans out....it's to keep americans IN!!!

I haven't seen hard data on the demographics but most political analysts suggest that the person you just described is actually the extreme minority of berniebros who supported Sanders solely as an anti-establishment candidate and moved on to Trump as the next best option when it came down to the nominations. The majority split between supporting a third party candidates, not voting or finally accepting HRC. Ideologically, many berniebros were progressives & supporting Trump really wasn't an option.

‘Just Say No’: AG Sessions Cites Old School Anti-Drug Motto
"I think we have too much of a tolerance for drug use ─ psychologically, politically, morally," Sessions told law enforcement officials in Richmond, Virginia. "We need to say, as Nancy Reagan said, 'Just say no.'"

Thats worked SO well the first time.
The world view of this administration and it's supporters is something like 30-150 years behind the times.
yep

They're also targeting drastic cuts to funding for the arts & public broadcasting.

I know they are operating under the assumption that the private sector will supply some of the roles impacted by these eliminations & that the economy is going to go into big league job creation but there's going to be a ton of public sector & supporting jobs going away under this administration. There seems to be no plan or funding for transitioning these people.....which is something the Republican party has not grasped in the last few decades; creating job openings is only the demand side of the equation (especially when you intend to create skilled and semi-skilled jobs). There's never a plan to supply the qualified workforce or transition people from dying occupations to vital roles.

Their jobs program is coal mining and throwing Mexicans out of the country.

We're in a state of relying on the next generation to supply qualified employees for tomorrow's jobs & abandoning today's worker. The rate of industry transition is only getting higher as technology & globalization continues to change the world. We have little to no answer for people in regions once dominated by industry, mining & manufacturing about their immediate or long term future and zero plan for today's walking-dead workforce. Ideologically what this administration is doing is delay the inevitable & roll back the clock on those jobs rather than develop a more agile workforce and economy. Huge risk considering the rest of the world is moving in a different direction.
