WHY NOT ALL PREPPERS ARE NUT JOBS...

While I was in the city last night to see The Bird Index, up here they were getting pummeled by a series of violent thunderstorms as a front moved through the area...the power was out at my place for most of the evening, being restored shortly before I got home...but over in Pine Bush, just a few miles down the road, the power didn't get restored until just a few hours ago...

I went to the grocery store there this morning, not really aware of the outage situation...when I got there most of the fresh food sections and refridgerated sections looked like this...

They were busy stripping them down and packing all the food for disposal...the dairy and frozen foods section were roped off and completely inaccessible...trucks were on the way with replacement stock but it's going to take a day or 2 to completely restock the store...

It serves as a stark reminder that Mother Nature is not subject to the whims of partsanship or economic climates...and it serves as a reminder that with all that mankind has managed to conquer and overcome we are still powerless against the whims of nature...

And serves notice that what many take for granted, like an adequate food supply, can be gone in the blink of an eye...

For me, this morning is a minor inconvenience because I have enough food in the kitchen to last 2 or 3 weeks, perhaps longer, including enough water and powdered milk...in my mind it is simply a matter of prudence to maintain a certain level of preparedness, especially in the winter months when there is a greater potential for extreme weather and the far ranging effects it can have...

i saw the same thing two summers ago, but with bottled water. we here in NW Ohio had a microcystin issue with the lake erie water that goes to the water plant and they couldn't treat it immediately. the entire area was OUT OF WATER. boiling did not work.
you should have seen the scrambling then. they got it fixed, and many big stores (kroger & walmart) were bringing in semi loads of water from Ill. and Ind. and Mich. by the dozens and were selling at next to nothing. like a buck for a 24 bottle case.
