OMG Politics, I'm over it already.

This part is interesting:

It would indeed be ironic if, in the name of national defense, we would sanction the subversion of one of those liberties . . . which makes the defense of the Nation worthwhile.”); Zemel v. Rusk, 381 U.S. 1, 17 (1965)

Well, we did just that with Japanese internment. Let's not go back there.

And the Patriot Act. We didn't round up all the Muslims or those were assumed were Muslim, but if we did it would have been done under that flag.

He (Chaffetz) can say he is against DeVos. But he didn't have the responsibility of a vote to prove he could cross party lines. Don't really believe the guy, yet.

Fuck him. He wasn't against or he would have voted that way. If he truly was, but didn't vote out of a sense of obligation because she may have contributed the election and re-election campaigns for either him and/or his colleagues, then he's compromised himself, his constituents, and the nation.

So again, fuck him.

He's also sticking his nose into a law in D.C. that allows citizens of the city to acquire drugs to end their life if they have a terminal disease. Trying to inflict his morality on people that he does not represent...that have no official voice in the national government? So not his fucking job...which he already sucks at. Yet, he got re-relected. It's amazing, but also has me not feeling too sorry for the folks there as he won by 47 percentage points per the clip. I would assume these were the folks never supported him reminding him that he doesn't speak for all the folks in his district, but they need to do a better job of mobilizing and voting to send him any sort of message.

In closing...fuck that guy.

Yes, I agree with all the sentiment, but he is a rep, not a senator, so he doesn't vote on cabinet positions.

SLC, where he works, is a very, very different place than most of that state, which exists under the banner of heaven. Every liberal person in the state can mobilize, but they will ultimately be outvoted there. Same with us mountain hippies up in the SV area, who are joined only by a few neighborhoods of Boise.

Yeah, but I'm ranting here. I rebut with teh alternate fact that he alone could have prevented DeVos from being appointed and didn't!

To the DeVo debacle, the 22 senators that had received donations from her should have been recused from voting. The conflict of interest is horribly flagrant.

I love the republican double standard at play. Clinton used the pay for play method with the Clinton Foundation, so she is evil and must be jailed. But they are free to openly take contributions from DeVos and then vote for her in the face of her overwhelming lack of experience. The only difference here is that if Clinton did do that, at least the money went to good causes, not some re-election fund.

And that difference is as stark as day and night. Yet the light is bright and clear on both and people still demonize her and don't acknowledge the stench of the DeVos nomination...let alone the actual appointment.

I almost think the Trump camp said, lets see how far we can push this, we are going to find the most unqualified person to nominate for this position and watch us push them through.

Sadly, I think it was more like:

"Who do we know that knows about education?"

"Betsy DeVos?"

"What?!"

"She's said stuff about schools before, right?"

"Yeah, and wasn't her mom or someone in a family a teacher or something..."

"Sounds perfect."

Two fucking seconds to see who's previously held the position to get a baseline on the level of expertise and experience of previous appointees. And they certainly wouldn't have to look too far to find a conservative with the requisite experience that wants to change things. Lazy and pathetic choice. I fear she's either hyper powermad and okay with the public perception or so fucking dense that she didn't get that any and every rational person thinks she's not only unqualified for this specific position, but that she's a fucking twit. This is the type of thing where you respectfully decline the initial offer or remove yourself from the process after looking like a complete fool in the initial rounds...and then more so after plagiarizing answers to written questions when your in-person hearings were cut short.

the cities with the highest % of immigrants are much safer. American born white males are much more likely to commit crime.

Southfield, Michigan has accepted a record number of refugees and their crime rate has gone down by a lot.

alternative facts aside what we are doing is embarrassing and must look pathetic to other countries in the world.
