OMG Politics, I'm over it already.

OK. I've cleaned up a bunch of stuff.

Let us remember that this thread only exists with the understanding that people remain civil in their discussions and avoid personal attacks. I don't want to lock this thread, as many people seem to enjoy the discussions, but please remember to keep things friendly and avoid tearing one another to shreds.

I don't have time to dig back in the thread and clean it all up, so if you feel slighted or I missed any previous attacks that led to the stuff I deleted, just report it and I will clean that up too. I don't have time to determine who was slighted and when, or what videos and photos might have offended and led to where we are now.
I'm back in school this week and don't have time to be on the forum as much. Tiltsta is also quite busy. If this thread goes off the rails then it'll get shut down and I'll start passing out bans.

This thread went from political discussion to full-on Trump bashing several hundred pages ago, IMO. Add to that every TV talk show host, comedian, and comedy sketch show like SNL seem to make a living off of Trump bashing, it's not even funny anymore...and he's only been in office 4 days. Time to stop picking that low hanging fruit and step up the game.

After the Phillies won the world series in '08 & had the parade, I had to go down to the ballpark for an unrelated event very early the next morning.
The sea of nearly mid-calf deep trash for as far as you could see was astounding. I've seen the trash strewn aftermath of music festivals and fairs but nothing ever like that....one of those moments where you actually say, What tha fuck? out loud.

IMO if he's going to steer the country into the on coming lane and play chicken and risk a head on crash, then he deserves the bashing. and the bashing IS "we the people's" way of showing our disapproval of him.

Sorry, I would defend him if his actions were anywhere near defensible. So far they haven't been, even before he took office, and since he has taken office he's gone straight for the jugular with an energy that can only be attributed to spite.

I get what you're saying, but a bunch of folks in a guitar forum disapproving him isn't showing up on anybody's radar. Way back at the beginning of this thread, the discussions were more about pros and cons of playing chicken (as it were) versus slinging names like Cheeto Mussolini.

As I mentioned, I hadn't stopped in here for several hundred pages because since the election, it's been nothing but mud slinging. Today I thought I'd stop by and see if anything had changed since he took office and see if there was any discussion about TPP, his meetings with the auto makers, the federal hiring freeze, etc...but 1/2 a page down i get Cheeto Mussolini and memes...so yeah...time to check out me thinks. I know you guys are better than that.

I'm guilty of that. My comment was more about personal attacks though.

Nothing fixes a problem faster than pointing at it as you drive by at 60mph. There are posts with content if you want to engage in topical discussion.

edit: To me this actually highlights the critical importance of the press in providing information to educate the public on the topics and the danger of disrupting the trust between the public and the press. Memes and vids are easy to post and don't require deep diving into a topic, which most people don't have the time or bandwidth to do, to be part of the dialog...and many of them are actually funny.

I for one like that he shot down the TPP. But then again I'm a union worker...

What's the deal with shoeless? I mean, look at this guy. He can't legislate his way out of a wet paper bag. And his mom is like the village bicycle down at the La Quinta. And he thinks global climate change is when you set your clocks ahead by one hour. And he has itsy bitsy teeny weeny hands. And a creepy collection of children's shoes. Plus he dresses like a clown every Tuesday and hangs out under a bridge. I mean this guy...he's the worst.

@Mark Wein @Tiltsta please don't lock down this thread. it contains a lot of political bad feelings from spilling over into the rest of the forum... not 100% but fairly close.

to the pro-Trump and the neutral-Trump folks: Trump is going to get bashed, a lot. Deal as best you can and take the high road.

to the anti-Trump folks: Stay classy, don't take it into the personal attacks level and don't get goaded into doing something you know you shouldn't.

Not surprising in the least. It's clear the administration plans on radically shifting the EPA's focus & don't want the staffers stirring the pot and complicating that transition. Edit: this is the same thing business do all the time when they engage in fundamental changes
On one hand, I'm really disappointed in the signaled changes to the EPA, Department of Education, HUD & the FCC,, etc..... but on the other, this is what you get w/ a President Trump as elected. Edit: who'd have thought that Rick Perry would look like the most harmless nomination.....

Anyone who hoped that he'd simply be the 'jobs President', is in for a bumpy ride.

Like I said pages ago, I am fine with pulling out of the TPP.

I am ok with the federal hiring freeze if he removes the pay freeze. I don't think it is a good idea to do both because you end up throwing more work on people who can't get raises. If he wants to mandate a pay cut for members of the house and senate, I am fine with that, but there are more to federal workers than people making 6 figures. And for those who live in the DC area, it isn't cheap and to freeze salaries and increase workload is pretty shitty when there are many other ways to cut costs. I like my dad's idea, change the senate to 1 senator for each state. They each make, on average, $175k per year. that is a savings of 8.75 million dollars per year and that doesn't include their staff or any other perks.

Has he met with the auto makers yet? Last I saw he was planning on it, I didn't think it was taking place until later, but now that I am working 2 jobs, it is way to hard to keep up on everything. I am all for more jobs in the US, but it isn't as easy a redoing NAFTA and forcing them to make jobs. Trump and his supporters are up in arms about undocumented people coming from Mexico to steal our jobs. If you suddenly force the auto industry to pull out of Mexico, now there are fewer good jobs in Mexico and more people will try to sneak in. That and if you make them move their plants back to the US, they will need to either expand their current facilities or build new ones, and that costs money that will force them to raise the price of cars also the cost of labor will increase also forcing them to increase the price of cars and now nobody can afford a new car so now they are shutting down the new facilities and laying off workers.

I think one of the biggest issues with Trumps personality is that he thinks things are as simple as a tweet and they are far more complex than he understands. He comes from a world where you throw your money around and make things happen and when it fails, you file bankruptcy and move on and as POTUS, he can't do that. I hope for the sake of the country, he learns this lesson quickly and on a issue that doesn't end up crippling the country for decades.

i posted that i agree that TPP needed to be shot down, several pages ago. i got heat for it. the way it was structured it would not have been best for OUR workforce.
those kind of trade deals NEED to be entered into with each country separately, not as one big package. and the reason is carrot and stick. if it's a great big package and one of the nations starts stepping outside the boundaries, and we were going to do something about it, then the other countries would take the heat also.
if, on the other hand, we had separate deals with each, two thing happen that are better. one, we can pull the deal if they are being bad and not effect everyone else. two, it gives all those we are dealing with incentive not be competitive (against each other) a little bit.

but, you know, i don't know shit.

I'm not really concerned with people bashing Trump, or Hillary, or Obama, or anyone in public office. I'm concerned with people attacking each other personally because of opinions expressed on these political figures. It is fine to disagree with any of our leaders, but it isn't OK to call another forum member on the other side of the issue an asshole. OK = I fucking hate Obama and I am glad his reign of terror is over. Not OK= Fuck you, shithed Tiltsta, you are exactly the kind of non-American loving shitbag that got us into this mess. I think everyone here can tell the difference.

As for the content, it is clear that this place leans to the left. I can't really do anything about that. I've never moderated any content based on if it was right or left, nor will I, so long as it follows the fairly simple rules of the forum. So, if you want to be pro right, go for it. I hope people who disagree will keep things civil as you discuss it. If they don't, I'll remove their stuff.
