OMG Politics, I'm over it already.

There was a football game on, and 60 Minutes was delayed here in NYC. I'm watching it now. I'm not even an occasional 60 Minutes watcher, but I'm watching this. It's good to hear Trump denounce the hate being perpetrated throughout the country against minorities. I don't believe that overture will be enough to stop it.

genie.....meet bottle. won't go back in.

although it's not a positive 'silver lining'......it has shown the country that we have not come anywhere NEAR as far as we've been believing.

Having been the subject of anti-Semitism, I can assure you, this country never went anywhere.

Trump denouncing the violence isn't nearly enough, but at least it's an official answer from the source.

i am sorry for your bad experience.

i remember Nixon swearing up and down that he was not a crook......didn't make it true.

Like I said earlier, I don't believe a word out of Trump's mouth. He can say what he wants, he still hired Steve Bannon as his Senior Advisor. The point is, he did say something. And while it won't stop anyone from committing an act of hate, it erases the defense of "well, it's ok for the next President to say it, so now I can do it." And that's a step further than we were two hours ago.

Denouncing the violence out of one side of his mouth while appointing Bannon out of the other side. Hmm. Actions speak louder than words, my Mom always has said. So while I agree it was good he said it, to "erase the defense", it is not nearly, nearly enough. And he is taking steps in the wrong direction, besides, with that appointment.

Of course it's not enough. But it's all we're going to get until he's pressed further on it.

I would love to see him pressed further on that appointment, and what message that appointment gives hate groups, and the mixed message it gives people concerned about being victims of such hate groups. And how anything he says "denouncing" the violence, etc., is hollow when it is coupled with that appointment. In other words, calling BS. I suppose it is "something" that he managed to say something on 60 minutes, but it does not seem like much to me, when coupled nearly hand in hand with that appointment. I am sure I am preaching to the choir here.

Considering the appointments were announced on a Sunday, and the interview aired on a Sunday night, I'm certain that Monday morning meetings will be full of questions on how to address the dichotomy.

i guess we will see just how much the 'press' is in bed with the system. if they don't go full nelson.....then they're complicit .

They don’t need to put any thought into this. Trump is a Republican. Trump is anti-lobbyists, therefore no Republicans are racist. It’s as simple as Republicans are the party of Lincoln, therefore no Republican is racist. The voters already voted for a white male billionaire as an anti-establishment candidate, so it’s not like they’re people who possess much in the way of critical thinking skills.

I don't mean by Trump's team, I mean by the press, who is clamoring for their first chance. Even Fox News will want to know.

Would you say he is a racist piece of shit?
I know he's been quoted saying some pretty awful stuff. I also know people's words are twisted and distorted to the point that their intent isn't being accurately conveyed.

Has he ever muttered a racist remark? Probably. Is he actually racist? I don't know.

Your thoughts?

I think that someone who isn't a racist but who fuels racism, manipulates racists, etc., for personal gain, is somehow worse that being a legit racist.

That said, I don't that the truth is that simple.

It's a little of column A and a little of column B, with a touch of column C, which is careless/stupid narcissistic sociopathic don't-give-a-fuckness.

Those words, combined with the subsequent act of that appointment, make his intent pretty clear to me. Not only words, but acts.

Executive Chairman. I would say that is a connection. And yes. It bothers me.
Fair enough.

The stuff I'm reading on Bannon doesn't look good, especially the link to the alt-right movement.

However, as we've seen in the past, sometimes the media makes links between things that aren't really there for the sake of making things more interesting than they are. I'm not saying that's the case this time, but it most definitely has occurred.

If Trump has any sense he will clear the air on the racial issues ASAP. We shall see.

He's going to be condemned for his cabinet choices either way, because you'd have to be a scumbag and/or a lunatic to take one of those jobs in the first place.

Especially if you're not white. And Trump doesn't seem to know any non-white people to begin with.
