OMG Politics, I'm over it already.

I hate that out political system has been reduced to Big Time Wrestling, with absolutely no rational substance and just a bunch of bravado, flag waving anger, and lies. glad that he seems to be backpedaling. But just stunned at the inability of our leaders to take on real issues in a serious, not BS elementary school playground thug like, way. Issues like our climate. Right to decent health care. you know, basic needs stuff. Bunch of fuckers.

So campaign device means essentially "bald faced lie?"
Again, in the context of this precedent elect, I am not bothered by the fact that the public might benefit by him not living up to these "campaign devices." But it really, really annoys me that we cannot just work logically, with the best available information to figure some shit out. @mongooz I know, I know. See above.

Man, where were all you futurists 2 weeks ago? Oh, that's right, you were right here confidently predicting how badly Trump was going to lose.
My Vote was already cast against the man (absentee ballot), with these scenarios already played out in my head. I'll admit I saw them as only "plausible" in a distant sense.

I don't believe I'm the only one.

Just think, in the last year these two people managed to convince enough people in their respective countries they were men of the people and the best alternative to the current crop of politicians - one a billionaire who inherited his entire wealth from his father, the other a privately educated ex commodities futures trader and both utter, utter cunts to boot.

Fair play to them, the greatest trick the devil ever pulled wasn't as good as theirs

That right there is obviously a doorway of the people too - marble lined, gold doors, private keypad to enter. It just screams working class.

In follow up to that, what I take out of this shit show of an election is that I cannot count on our national government to do anything rational to take care of matters that matter most to me. So I better do it myself. That could include building a dang bomb shelter, and stocking it with food. And for the first time, I am considering buying guns and becoming proficient in their use. Also, setting up solar power to run our well pump, and other primary needs. Pretty much thinking all the money I have put into social security may be gone or otherwise unavailable to me, so better figure that out too. On my mountain bike ride, when I was trying to disgorge my election angst, a Dad with some kids commented nonchalantly about the beautiful warm day. I retorted that it was too dang hot for this time of year. And that kids, better do all you can for the environment, as the government is not going to. So yeah, I was that guy today.
Seriously,I'm sorry, but I absolutely howled with laughter when I read this...

The ultra right wing preppers survivalist movement has been saying the same thing for years , and in a panic for the last 2 contemplating a Clinton presidency...convinced that it would be the end of the world the shit would hit the fan etc etc etc...now they are relaxing a bit, anticipating the Trump years...

As I've said before, just 2 sides of the same coin, crippled by hatred and mistrust...

Whoa oh oh oh
For the longest time
Whoa oh oh
For the longest
If you said goodbye to me tonight
A woohoohoohoo

The destruction of civilization through climate change is a slow burn (heh). We'll be fine, hell your kids will probably be fine. Your kids kids however are most likely fucked :embarrassed:

There is a huge difference in my mind. Did you have any reasonable believe that Al Gore, Barrack Obama or Hillary Clinton would launch nuclear missiles? I never once thought Bush, McCain or Romney would. I'm not so sure about Trump. If he does, we all will wish we were right wing nut job preppers.

I'm also not sure why the right hates the left? Are they mad at the left for giving them healthcare? Or lowering unemployment? Making the stock market rise? Is it really as simple as the left is ok with gays and Muslims? And the left is OK with a 43 year old supreme court decision? I'm seriously asking.

@jelloman , some reasons for the things I said that sounded survivalist:

I live in a community known for its "left" views in the middle of one of the most "red" areas in the county. Our community is viewed as a variety of things by the other citizens of the state, rich, spoiled, lawless, Godless, etc. (BTW, I, and most that I know, are not rich, and are struggling working and middle classers who continue to feel the pinch, despite economic recovery in other areas of the country.) Most of these people have guns. I see people come driving up from the lowlands to where I live, coming out to the trails that I hike and bike to go shoot meat for the winter. Generally friendly enough, and I always attempt to be friendly and talk to people. though a minority are not, and a minority like to violate backcountry travel restrictions and drive their four wheelers in over single track trails, where no motorized is allowed.

There are people both in and out of our community that now fly Nazi and Confederate symbols.

I do not see Trump making their, and our, financial security any better. I hope I am wrong but I don't think so.

I, anecdotally, am witnessing what feels like pretty drastic climate change. There is no snow when there should be. There is no cold when there should be. The forests in my state burn every year now. Not a fire every few years. The trees are dying in droves. Everything is dry, dry, dry. Water has always been an issue in the intermountain west. This does not look to improve under what I am observing. This anecdotal evidence corresponds with the science that the climate is changing. We, IMO, were not addressing it fast enough before, and it appears we will go backwards now. The working poor that inhabit my state will end up suffering as water dries up, agriculture starts to struggle, and people simply do not have enough. (that reminds me, might need to have my well checked for depth. Seems fine now, but doesn't hurt to have it checked). This is what had me riled up the most yesterday.

I am concerned about health care for the people of this state. Idaho did not enroll in the medicaid eligibility expansion. A lot of people were left in the gap. Now, all bets are off. I did a lot of bankruptcy work a few years ago, as part of the recession, and a lot were driven by health expenses. I would not be surprised to see that return. Mr. Trump seems now to want to keep some aspects of the ACA, but this gap has not been addressed, and the exchange in Idaho does not have many options. Ryan apparently wants to privatize medicare. I do not trust insurance companies and the market to fix this situation. So, more financial stress could be in store. IMO, the way to correct the situation is to go all the way with universal health care, as the market does not work in this area. We are apparently going to try a different path that doesn't look too realistic to me.

If and when the financial stress gets bad enough and resources (water, food) start to run out, conflict may result. Conflict between people in this country seem as amped up as I have ever seen them. And my county represents those lazy bastard hippy elites to a lot of the rest of the people in this state. Things seem to me to be getting worse, not better. We do not have many racial minorities here in terms of blacks, asians or muslims, other than a pretty decent hispanic population. But those that are here, particularly LGBT people, of which there are quite a few in my county, can feel pretty intimidated by some of the other folks in the community that are not so tolerant. And as I said, we are like a little blue island in a vast sea of red. Our schools are funded better due to better tax base, there are nicer homes here, people look and act differently here, and by some we Godless mountain heathen are resented. So, I better get prepared.

Maybe this will not come to pass. The president elect has already waffled on some things. Maybe the market will prefer this way. But even if that is the case, I am not confident the rewards will be evenly distributed. I believe the people of Idaho will get left out, and will feel sold out by the president elect, as he is already "waffling." We shall see.

I have a related, and more positive, view as well. And that is one of continuing to reach out to my fellow humans and do what I consider to be good things. To try to understand others who view things differently from myself, and work with them. Being watchful, however of abuse of others in my community, that is not ok. And be ready to stand up for the oppressed and abused. It is just different sides of the coin in terms of coming out of my bubble. I am an Eagle Scout and was taught to be prepared. So I intend to become more prepared for a variety of ways things could go. Work for the best, and be prepared for the worst.

Just something to think about: your neighbors probably didn't jump on amazon and get next day shipping on their racist accessories Tuesday night.....they've had that shit all along & this current climate has inspired them to let their freak flag fly, literally. As people continue to stand up against racism and intolerance, they will go back to suppressing their shenanigans in public.
The key question is how do we work to help change those attitudes for the better rather than be ok with it existing under the surface?

I bet there are going to be some pretty angry Trump supporters. I'm loving the back pedaling. You know if he reverses all him campaign promises, it may not be so bad.
What do you mean by backpedaling?
He hasn't even been president elect for a full week yet much less the actual president.
