Man, this A&M vs. Tennessee game might be the longest without OT I've ever seen. We are at 4 hours 10 minutes, and there are still over 3:embarrassed:0 on the clock. o_O

The Aggies are gonna win though, so we got that goin for us.

2 years ago the Ducks/Spartans game was one of, if not the biggest non-conference game of the year. This year, both teams suck hard.

What happened?
Things are cyclical. As a UW fan from before I was born, it feels as though finally order has been restored to the universe. Only one game, and they had our number for many years. But last night felt good.

Just under 5 hours on the DVR with the two OT's. That was a marathon. So many injuries really added a lot of time to this game. Apparently it was a big recruiting weekend for the Ags. I wonder what their prospects thought about it. I was glad to see us finally win a game like that at home.

That would have been a real gut-buster to lose. I was glad the kicker got a chance to redeem himself after missing that one badly near the end of regulation.

Yeah, that and Trayveon had a couple of good runs in that final regulation drive too, after having the ball knocked out on the goal line. The ironic part is, he probably would have been better off getting tackled and not even getting the touchdown. A&M could have just run out the clock at that point, being up by 7. The fumble/touchback was pretty much a worst-case scenario for them. I think most folks just knew TN was going to score after that. Deal with the Devil and all...

Chip and his cheating ways left the Ducks for the NFL and Michigan just can't seem to recruit a good QB

So the first CFP rankings came out yesterday putting 7-1 A&M at #4, ahead of 8-0 Washington, based on strength of schedule. While I don't necessarily disagree with that, I am afraid that this may be the kiss of death for the Aggies. They have a terrible history of self-destructing once they start getting praise from the media or becoming heavy favorites. There's plenty of evidence to support that in the last two seasons alone. I hope I'm wrong, because I'd love to see them make it to the dance. We'll see how things go Saturday where the Ags are 14 pt. favorites over Miss. St.

We could argue back and forth against the strength of schedule thing, but I am not going to worry about it. UW is a young team coming off a long period of not being all that competitive. The early schedule was weak. In my mind, it should serve to keep UW motivated. If they continue to win out and don't get any love, I may get less enthused.

It's just more screwyness we have to live with when we depend on rankings.

It depends on how we think they are intended - is it a ranking of the teams in order of how good we think they are? If that is the case, there is no reason a team with one loss couldn't be ranked ahead of an unbeaten team, given that the one loss was to a team ranked higher than both of them.

If one were to argue that the rankings are some kind of substitute for standings that "normal" sports leagues have, which are based solely on W/L, that might be different.

Me, I dislike the whole rankings thing. I say run it just like you run the AAA High School Football playoffs in your home state. Obviously, statewide, year to year, some regional subdivisions are stronger than others. But, such is life. The winners then compete in the playoffs. It is simple, and there is no guesswork. Whoever wins the games goes on to compete further past the regular season. But that is just me. And if that was the case, then this would just be a mid-season poll, and would not really matter.

As it is, all UW (or really any team) can do is show up on game day and keep winning. Hopefully, if they do, it will be recognized. The pundits say that the "committee" (gawd I hate that. some group of dudes in a room making decisions, rather than scores), will "highly regard" conference winners. Whatever that means.
