We haven't discussed whiskey here in a while...

I love Cognac. It is not remotely raisin IMO.

All joking aside, I usually get some fig and raisin notes from Armagnacs and Cognacs. The ones you're into might not have it. Or maybe you're just in denial.

I get more caramel and smoke in the ones I've partaken of. Fig I can agree with as well. If I taste raisin though, bleck!
To be fair, I tend towards Courvoisier. Mostly the XO and Napoleon. Napoleon is literally liquid, alcohol caramel. Amazing stuff. Too bad it's prohibitively expensive.
I haven't ventured into Martell but hear great things. Also very expensive.

Is it Martell? I've been drinking so excuse me if I'm naming wrong liquors.

If you haven't tried Pierre Ferrand, yet, you owe it to yourself. Anything from them. The Amber is around $40-50 and rocks my world, which is very unusual for something only 80 proof.

I asked my wife to get me a bottle of bourbon at the liquor store.

She brought home this.

It’s not bad.

Lots of rye in it. Aged in a very charred barrel.

It’s got a kick to it but it’s not harsh going down.

I did a whiskey tasting at Hard Water in SF last week. Amazing place! I didn't keep track of what I tried, but it was all good and I got a pretty good buzz!

I've heard a lot of good things about Hard Water, but I have yet to check it out.

The bartenders are kinda dickish, but they know their shit. There was this one older guy, in particular, who was a real douchey know-it-all. But I told him what I like, and he steered me to some outrageous stuff. Unfortunately, the ones I liked best were proprietary blends made especially for Hard Water.

Also, I wish they did more of a true tasting there, with partial pours so you can try more things before you get schnockered. All their pours are at least a full shot, with some being a shot and a half.

Ha ha. Typical hipster bartenders. I know the type pretty well.

Oh,! the hurt you could put on some of them...

I've got a bottle of Larceny and another of Bulleit Rye that has about a shot worth left each. Due to habit, I don't drink much anymore, so I think I'm going to settle into some higher stuff as soon as I can afford to, that way I can *really* enjoy drinking when I do.

This was a 120 proof Knob Creek Disney exclusive. Good Lord it was brutal!

I stopped in at a BBQ place to get some of their renowned fried chicken to take home and had a drink while I waited for it to be prepared.

Really easy to drink.

Tried Michter's bourbon and American whiskey a while ago--both very nice.
Whistlepig's flavor profile has changed, and I don't like it.
