Walnut Hollowbody Build

The TV Jones T-Armond pickup looks interesting to me. Looked at a bunch of youtubes and clips.
Those things are $160 each! That's Lollar money.


Here are the neck thickness measurements.

1st. 28 mm (1 1/8")
2nd, 3rd, 4th. 27mm (1 1/16")
5th. 28mm
6-10. 29mm
11. 31mm
12. 35 mm (1 3/8")

Beyond 12 isn't carved much at all.

22nd fret. 41mm (1 5/8")

The flat sawn lumber has a different appearance. Quarter sawn is more common.

These lines show where I need to be in order to follow the taper all the way.
Which leads me to a design question.
Do I leave the taper and cut the neck joint to fit it or square it.
If I square it, that means I'll have the fretboard overhanging.
But I'm not sure yet where the fretboard will be in relation to the body. It will probably be elevated some.

For now, I'll leave it tapered til I get the body ready, then decide.

When I started, I printed my fretboard template for a 1 3/4" nut.
Changed my mind and bought the tusq nut instead and it's 1 11/16".
Forgot to reprint my template and I have some more shaving to do.

Something went haywire with this template. It's 1 7/8" wide. I think maybe I accidentally told it I wanted 1 3/4" string spacing. That's why it's so wide.
Operator error. I'm glad it was this way and not the other. I coulda ended up with a Ric neck! :embarrassed:
I always worked off the center line and never bothered to actually measure it.
There's 1/16" or more to come off each side.

Finally got the neck width sorted out. Not sure what I did wrong that first time but I musta put some wrong numbers in.
Here's the fretboard re-marked and with a potential headstock template. This one is base on Foo's Marauder.

What do you think of the pointy headstock?


And, what do you think of using this veneer for the headstock?

Curiosity got the better of me. I've been anxious to see how this was gonna look with the juice on it so I gave it a coat. :grin:

Here's my Houston hotel project.
This version repeats the 22 and 44 number in manyeasurements. That's the nut width.
The two curves off the nut are 44mm as is the tip. The curve at the tip of the truss rod cover is 22 mm.

I like this one but I have some more changes for it.
