I've read through a lot of reviews on those Indonesian G&L Tributes, and it's a crapshoot whether you'll get one that's OK out of the box or if you will get one requiring an extensive setup.

Doesn't every guitar require an extensive setup out of the box? I say that as somebody who used to work musical instrument sales.

Adjusting relief, maybe fiddling with the bridge to get intonation right, sure. Leveling/polishing frets and filing sharp fret-ends, it's going back...

Neither of my Schecter guitars did. They set them up in the USA before sending them to stores.

I think these are the best buy in a mid priced strat right now. SQUIER CONTEMPORARY STRAT IN SSH . These were $350, but you can get the SSH all over for $280 now. I got one in blue a couple days ago, played it back to back with Squier Standard Strat. Not a world of difference in the pups but I would say the contemporary strat pups were a little darker and deeper sounding. Out of the park quality for the price with the 2 point bridge I much prefer. Linky...
