The Baseball Thread.....

it'll end. then people will focus on how they're below .500. then they'll focus on the Madoff scandal. then it'll be the trade deadline...

...was Citi Field build on a Indian Burial ground?...or maybe a big field where mobsters used to throw corpses?...

it was built in the Shea Stadium parking lot. the Citi Field parking lot is where Shea was.

The Rockies entered the month of May in first place in their division and 1/2 game off the best record in baseball.

One month later they are one loss from forth place in the division despite some of the best starting pitching overall in recent team history.

A microcosm of their month was perfectly shown the past two games. Sunday they were losing 4 - 2. Bottom of the seventh they have the bases loaded and no one out. They didn't score. Yesterday they outhit the Dodgers in LA 14 to 11, and lost 7 - 1. One for twelve with men on base. Other than occasional breakout games their offense has been non-existent all month. This is exactly what they did last September to drop out of the division race in the last two weeks. Theses are the stretches you pay your stars the big bucks to carry you out of. And Tulo and CarGo are not up to the task.

if i've learned anything in watching the Mets these past oh, 10 years, it's that people expect too much from their stars. management needs to expect more from the role players and bench guys and not overpay for their services. you can pitch around stars. but when you're getting good at-bats from everybody, those 14 hits turn into runs.

...one of the things ive always noticed about the rockies is that they never seem to be firing on all cylinders...when their pitching is lights out, the offense cant buy a hit, and vice versa...when they can get it together, they make it to the world series...(and looz to the Bo Sox)...

i honestly think this is most teams. there's simply not enough talent out there to be any better than that.

...in most cases, I agree with you...but sometimes the teams are just lopsided...I think the rockies this year have a decent bench...but their pitching is hit or miss...like wise, there are a lot of teams that only have one of each, the indians come to mind...these teams are true wild cards...cause if they can keep the bats hot, they can cruse theyre way through the playoffs on semi-decent pitching...

first game I can remember going to was in '83, against the Expos. i was 5.

the last time the Mets were in the World Series was in 2000. so it's been oh, 10 years since then and only one postseason appearance since. i'm not sure i watched them with the same eye in the 90s that i did in the past decade. i'm much more about the game, fundamentals, and strategy than i was then when i was just cheering.

man, you really got all the shitty years growing up. a friend of mine is the same age as you and he's still furious at Donald Grant.
