Oh c'mon howie...it's opening day...the future has yet to be written, there is potential for success, the records are all equal...:poke:

...believe it or not I actually think the mets may be fun to watch...scrappy, even...are they gonna win? probably not...but I enjoy seeing the young players develope and I think that this is a building year for the future...2 or 3 years from now this could be a good team...

I really feel that way...

the front office will do it's best to turn this team around and they will. just as long as the Wilpons don't get in the way.

without an operating budget they're gonna HAVE to develope the farm system...I know I'm gonna get fragged for this, but I'm hoping they trade Reyes for a boatload of prospects...they're never gonna re-sign him so get what you can while the gettin's good...

...I agree...at this point, he wont be around to be part of a contention team, so might as well move him while hes still worth something (and I dont personally think hes worth much)...

actually, the whole plan is to take the "savings" from the shedded payroll and put a good chunk of it into the farm system. the system is ranked 20th in the league, which is abysmal. the entire organization will get a new approach over the next few years. that's why Terry Collins is the manager. so they can develop Wally Backman into a MLB ready manager who knows the system inside and out. though, they did put Tim Tuefel in as the manager in Buffalo. so maybe they'll both come up and you can platoon them depending on who's pitching. :tongue:

I'd expect that reaction from a Phillies fan, and I can understand the sentiment...he's never really stepped up against philly...but he gets on base, has great speed, and is a wall at short...there are alot of teams (*cough*yankees*) who would like to have him...

...a few seasons ago, I would rate him pretty valuable...but the last 2 years or so, hes pretty much faded...

he packed it in last august when they were out of contention. but put simply, Reyes needs to get on base. period. don't care how. get on base. if he's sporting a .350 OBP at the trade deadline, he's gone.

...if that were to happen around here, the fans would eat him alive, and drive him out of town...how DARE he give up? hes out there representing the team, and the fans of the team...to give up just because theres no chance of a championship...that is lazy, and disrespectful to all the fans...

not everybody agrees that he dogged it. but i think he did. like i said, he's got a lot to prove.
 
if Josh Johnson can continue to dominate in spite of Hanley Ramirez' horrible defense, the Marlins are going to win a lot of games this season. threw 5 innings of no-hit ball and the Mets were happy to roll over for him.

it wasn't the worst Mets game i've ever seen. Pelfrey was mediocre and the offense was asleep at the plate, except for Willie Harris who broke up the no-no. but they didn't make any stupid mistakes and played decent defense. they're gonna lose 81 games this year, so at least they got the first one out of the way.
 
...So...Phils are in first place in the East...Pads in the West...and the Reds in the middle...sounds about right...the American Leauge East is gunna be interesting this year I think...
