That Seedy Table In The Dark Corner Where The Reprobates Gather

Hmmmm, I might be able to hack this from Zzounds for 4 payments of $166 each. I'm intrigued. Not a bad guitar.

Hi Silver,

Yes - I read that this morning I think. I am using the "new Posts" option to stay on top of what is hot.

SOT - But I stopped over at HC 1.0 - I see PunkKitty gave a good bye to HC. (She is MHN433 over there - or was I should say.)

Yup. I like this crowd. Less B.S. And that place wasn't doing anything good for me.

Well guys and gals, unless I sell one of my guitars (which I'm not so sure I'd like to do at this time), the PRS SE Custom Semi-Hollow Soapbar became a No Go option tonight. After I got home from work, I cleaned the cats' litter boxes. While I was walking past my car after disposing of the bagged cat litter in the dumpster, I took a look at my car's tires, and was shocked to see that the sidewall on the front passenger tire, was so badly cracked, that the tire could have failed at any time. With visions of a blow-out happening on I-94, during my 27 mile commute to work tomorrow morning, I frantically went looking for a service shop that could replace my tire, at 7 PM. The only one that was open, was Firestone. To top it off, the tread was worn past the limits on the other tires (so much for holding out on new tires, until the Summer). So, in a nutshell, I ended up replacing all of my tires. It cost me $410, using up over half of my profit sharing bonus I received at work today, and not leaving me with enough for the PRS SE Custom Semi-Hollow Soapbar. I could possibly still buy the humbucker versionit on payments through Zzounds/AMS, but I don't know if I want to go that route.

Oh well. I'm not happy about it, but I feel lucky that I didn't find out about the bad tire the hard way - with a blowout on the freeway at 70 plus miles per hour.
New tires are more important than new guitars. Blowouts suck. Maybe you can find a used PRS.

How was the feedback or lack of with it?

OH it was definitely there! But I had no problem dealing with it. It wasn't microphonic (microphonics is a deal breaker for me, because it's difficult to impossible to control), and was FUN to play with!! I've played semi-hollows at high gain, for over 25 years, and hollows for the past year plus at high gain. I learned how to deal with feedback at mega gain & volume back in the 90s with this guitar:

It's a first version Gibson Howard Roberts Fusion. Mine was a 1980, and was my main gigging guitar for most of the 90s. The body was almost as wide and thick as the Brian Setzer Hot Rod's was. I played hard rock, metal, and thrash metal with that guitar. It taught me how to deal with feedback at high gain and volume. Actually, in some ways the 'Setzer Hot Rod, and other 6120 series Gretsches are almost semi-hollow, because they have trestle bracing (trusswork like a bridge), that goes between the botton, and top of the guitar body, tying the two together, which helps fight feedback.

+1, one of the reasons I was posting less at HC in recent times, was due to the increase in trolls and jerks in recent months. I got tired of it.

I might still be able to pull off getting the humbucker equipped version of the SE Custom Semi-Hollowbody, via the make payments plans that Zzounds, AMS, etc. have. I'm going to think about it overnight. I'll repeat what I said earlier - while I'm bummed about spending $400 on new tires, I feel VERY LUCKY to have discovered the dangerous condition of the one tire tonight, rather than the hard way possibly tomorrow - by experiencing a blowout at 70 or 75 miles per hour while commuting to or from work on I-94!

Good night Ladies & Gents!

Second in,

Good morning PRS. There are not many at HC 1.0 - so maybe people are posting late today.

I have a deadline due - so I will not be around much during the day.

Glad to see Ellen, and PunkKitty back posting. I mean, we don't want this to be the man's club - everybody sitting around in their underwear, and drinking beer.

Sorry to hear about the tire Ellen - but like you said, this is better than loosing it on the highway.

Back to work.

See you all later.

Good morning people. I'm here at the salt mines.

I'm also trying to decide what to do with the remaining cash from my profit sharing bonus, without using it up:

1. I'm finding the idea of getting a PRS SE Custom Semi-Hollow (the humbucker version) from Zzounds on payments (4, $166 payments), more intriguing by the hour.

2. I have been considering getting a TV Jones Powertron Plus (basically a high output filtertron, with a tad bit more output than a DiMarzio PAF Pro) for my Gretsch in the bridge postion, since I find the stock, underwound filtertron, to be underwhelming, and want more oomph, an bottom end, while still retaining most of that Gretsch tonality. Cost is about $135. There's a local I know from the Gretsch pages, who plays in a heavy rock King's X style band called Crumpler http://www.crumplerband.com/ and http://www.myspace.com/crumplerband; some downloadable tunes on the band's website too), who always puts Powertron Pluses in his Gretsches. His guitar sound kicks some serious butt!!

3. I've been considering putting in either a Seymour Duncan Hot Jag, or Quarter Pounder for Jaguar in the bridge position of my Jag, since it's a little thin sounding (Ken if you have ideas, I'm open for them, as long as they aren't Strat pickups), which is one of the weak points of the CIJ Jaguars.

4. I'm debating getting my hands on a Marshall MG15, or Lead 15 head for some low powered Marshall solid state fun.

I don't want to blow every last penny of my bounus, so I have to choose wisely, now that a goodly chunk of my funds have been used up.

Good morning all...I just got up and I've been surveying the damage

As to PRS guitars, I've always found them to be superbly crafted instruments that I could never bond with. I've never picked one up and said to myself "I NEED TO TAKE THIS HOME RIGHT NOW" and if an instrument doesn't speak to me on some level I won't buy it...

Definitely. I actually had a PRS Standard 22 that I sold because I bonded with a Michael Kelly.

Ken, do you have any ideas for hotter Jaguar pickups? The bridge pickup in my 66 CIJ reissue, is a bit bright for my tastes.

Morning guys and gals. Ken, those protos are sweet. When you decide to sell them, let us know here on the boards first. I am sure some of us would be willing to spring for one if the timing works out.

So Mark, I worked on those lessons you recommended to me yesterday via PM. I am really happy with them. I have a problem not understanding/applying the vertical nature of scales and so I am scared to move outside of the pentatonic box. I picked up some good stuff and really felt like I was playing after a few minutes of working on it. Good job on the lessons and thanks for the recommendations.

Ellen, my Dad inherited a Chet Atkins Gretsch from his father in law (his 3rd wife, so no relation to me) a year or two ago and has the stinking thing squirreled away in his storage room. Doesn't even know if it works, what model it is other than it has chets name on it and has NEVER even played it! I keep begging him to bring it to me to check out and he won't. I am affraid it is setting in there rotting away from lack of care. I think his wife doesn't want it to leave the house personally. lol His Brazilian rosewood Martin D28 is setting right next to it I am sure. Never plays either of them.

What damage Mark? As for PRS - I've always been of the cusp between "gotta have", and "ahhhhh, may some other time" with regards to them. I'm not 100% sure if "some other time" has finally arrived.

Hey guys:Wave: Been busy last day or so, and posting a little at HC but only a couple of times I swear.
I still really like this site for close and personal connections and HC for being a total dipshit.
