Achtung! Sooooooooooo any of you guys interested in the international sawker cup?

Bah I was too tired and had too much work to really take that in.

Couldn't give a toss about the Iran game but hopefully I'll be able to stay up for the US game, I think it has the makings of a belter.

Whelp the Germany/Portugal result is great news for the US. Portugal is looking overrated (Mexico hammered them in a friendly recently too). I can see them winning 2 games now quite possibly and that would get them in to the round of 16 easily.

I don't think it's a matter of being good, it just does play well on TV. I also think it hard to follow for new watchers without someone to tell you what'd going on. Any sport that goes 1 1/2 hours with one or two goals is going to have a hard time with an American audience.

We're OK with hockey, though. I think that despite the low score, hockey appears to be more exciting on TV because it's so fast up and down the ice. If it didn't have such a strong international presence, some slick sports marketer would change rules to ruin it like the NBA ruined basketball.

Hockey is more popular than soccer, but I think it's regionally popular. Up here in original 6 land people are into hockey, the rest of the country not so much. That despite their efforts with putting franchises in Arizona and other ridiculous places.

The Germany Portugal game was a stunner! I'm getting off work about an hour early so I can get on my bike and get home for the US Ghana match.

Yeah - but they MUST get by Ghana first. And Ghana is just not a good matchup for the US style wise. It helps that the referee for the match is a Swede....but not one with any WC experience. And Ghana are the masters of faking fouls.

Can someone explain the head butting to me? What the hell? Why are these guys always head butting each other? Who does that? Seriously.

Rarely happens really. Only the stupidest players attempt to. Even if you're properly riled up, there's no excuse even attempting that - as you'll get a red card just for the intent.

t seems like there is an occurrence whenever soccer is a topic around here. If they are that upset why not just fight?

Think that's more a coincidence really. Don't think I can recall a proper headbutt in the World Cup since 2006, the one earlier today was nowhere near as bad, but the intent alone qualified for the red. Why some even consider it I have no idea. idn_smilie

Is that the one with the ice??

Yeah, we got the Panthers now but growing up nothing that resembled ice in this part of the country.

Man, that is unfortunate about Altidore.

The US squad looked pretty iffy most of that half (other than the goal). At least in the late minutes they managed to maintain some possession.
